The police have arrested a housewife, Lubabatu Haruna, living at Sabo-Wuse community of Dagiri in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State, Friday, for allegedly killing her husband and his friend.
Her younger brother was also arrested in connection with the alleged crime.
City News learnt from sources close to the family of the deceased that the suspect’s late husband, a police officer, was planning to marry a new wife before the incident, while his friend, who was also killed with him, was said to be in the forefront of the planned marriage.
The suspect and her younger brother, Basiru Haruna, were said to have slaughtered their victims, Sa’idu Ahmad, (the husband) and his friend, while they were sleep inside their compound during the wee hours of the day.
The third victim, Ibrahim Gambo, a house help, who survived with injury, was stabbed on his shoulder and was taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada, for treatment.
Gambo’s father and an elder brother of the deceased police officer, Gambo Ahmad, told City News.
Gambo said that late Sa’idu Ahmad, a mobile police officer attached to Mopol 45 Abuja, was promoted recently and planning to have a second wife before the incident occurred.
His late friend, he added, was on a visit to him to discuss the marriage issue.
City News learnt that the deceased persons were buried the following day after their corpses, initially deposited at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Hospital in Sabo-Wuse, were released by the police.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Sabo-Wuse, Chief Superintendent A. Muhammad, confirmed the incident, saying the two suspects have been arrested by the division and they would be taken to Minna, the Niger State capital, for further investigation.
