Speaking from experience, such forms of discipline will only turn the child into a rebel. I've been beaten with heavy marks on me when I was younger by not only my dad but grandparents and uncles too. When the mother keeps quiet, the child is left helpless and as years goes by the child develops genuine hatred for all those around. African parents need to learn the difference between discipline and abuse, poverty & ignorance are no excuse!
