As power brokers across the country make subtle moves ahead of the 2015 presidential election, former governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has said President Goodluck Jonathan would hand over to a candidate from the South East zone.

This conclusion came even as he dismissed the clamour to recapture power by the North, saying that the ethnic bloc should forget their ambition for now until the South East enjoys its share of the nation's presidential power equation.
He revealed that though the South East at no point reached an agreement with Jonathan on the succession issue, but the understanding between the President and Ndigbo is that one of their own should succeed him.
( Without an agreement, can you stop an incumbent having his second term...even though the man appears to be living his presidency day-by-day? Agens)
Speaking with Sunday Sun on phone, he said people of the zone had always made it clear to Jonathan that a candidate from the zone would succeed him when he leaves office. According to him, the understanding is that by the time Jonathan had exhausted his mandate, he would support the idea of an Igbo man becoming the next president of Nigeria.

"At every opportunity with Jonathan, Ndigbo have made it clear that any time he completes his constitutionally guaranteed tenure, it would now be the turn of the South East," he said. He, however, noted that the South East was not in a hurry to see Jonathan out of power, but would continue to support him until he completes his tenure."I repeat what I said before, that the Igbo would succeed President Jonathan whenever he leaves office, but we are not in a hurry to hound him out of office.

"We have given Jonathan our total support, but we have always made it clear that after his tenure, it would now be the turn of the South East," he said. The former governor also noted that the president has the constitutional right to run for a second term and recalled that some of his predecessors enjoyed similar opportunities in office. He said apart from the South East, all other geo-political zones have ruled Nigeria, lamenting that the short tenure of Gen Aguiyi Ironsi was mired in violence.

"The North should forget the presidency until the South East zone has enjoyed its turn. Out of the over 50 years of Nigeria's independence, the North ruled for about 38 years.

"The North knows that they should reorganize themselves.

A perfect example of counting ones chicks before the eggs are hatched.

"The North knows that they should reorganize themselves"
I guess the North did so, but earlier than was expected. grin

Modified (25th December 2018):
So in 2012, it was not a sin for a notable Igbo politician and elder to be making projections for the 2019 elections, such that Jonathan will hand over to the Igbos on the basis of their support for him already in 2011 election and the then upcoming 2015 elections that Jonathan lost.

But it is a sin for Yoruba politicians to have the same hopes and canvass same as regards Yoruba support for Buhari and APC, and the subsequent handover of power within the party to the Yorubas as a reward for the previous support?

Anyone who listens to an Igbo wailing like a victim and decides to show any empathy, has never really unraveled the cunningness of the devious Igbo.

And reorganize we did. No wonder they are still in shock and are daily heaping their frustration on their keyboards trying in vain to attack our President.

Jonathan's presidency was like sweet wine to the Igbo, imagine the way this one was running his mouth as if presidency is a topic for his kind to discuss.

Meanwhile instead of the Presidency, Jona was scamming the living daylights out of the SE with the 2nd Niger Bridge.

Chei Jona!

They will not call this tribalism now, but if it was Fashola or Osinbanjo they will say it is tribalism.

I will never fall victim to the crocodile tears of the Igbos.

Those who do not know the depth of deviousness they are dealing with as it concerns the Igbos and their hypocrisy, need to encounter such past political news and topics like this, and the topic where Yoruba elders complained about marginalization by the Jonathan regime and the ensuing Igbo reaction and rejoice over the complaints made by the Yoruba leaders.
