Hundreds of Yoruba people and their American counterparts have staged a protest in support of a United States based cardiologist Dr Adeniran Ariyo.

The protesters marched in the city of Dallas last weekend in a show of solidarity with the physician who has been accused by a section of the Igbo community of making hate statements.

The physician had since denied the allegation but this has not stopped scores of Igbo people from demonstrating at the front of his office with derogatory remarks hauled at him.

The Igbo group in Dallas had asked the Ethics Committee of the medical board to withdraw Dr Ariyo’s certificate.

Since the March incidence, the physician has been placed under severe verbal attacks by some Igbo people based in Dallas, United States.

“Leave Dr Ariyo alone” “Stop Igbo Hooliganism” reads some of the banners. The protesters sang praises of Dr Ariyo who they praise for distinguished professional career spanned decades of legendary feat in the medical profession.

A member of the Egbe Omo Yoruba in Dallas, Mr Akeem Oduwole condemned the protests targeting Dr Ariyo saying that the protesters were out to exploit and diminish his professional career. That ONAC expresses solidarity with Yoruba people in Dallas who today, have left their homes and offices to show support for a man singled out for deliberate persecution by people that bear false witnesses against him.

In its solidarity message, the Pan Yoruba Groups promised to meet the protests against Dr Ariyo with “proportional response in Nigeria.”

The group stated in a solidarity message sent to the leaders of the Dallas protest “this message confirms our unflinching support for Dr Ariyo whose rise to professionalism was borne out of hard work, perseverance, personal discipline and great family values.”

The Pan Yoruba groups said it “will continue to work with genuine ethnic groups in Nigeria and across the world, the Igbo inclusive, who are committed to self determination borne out of mutual respect for values, ancestral territories and the ancient civilization of the each ethnic group.”

The group added “We thank the Yoruba people that choose to be part of this great show of solidarity and we urge you all to continue to engage the Yoruba enemies and the enemies of free speech and democracy, in the culture of debate even though they have come with cudgels and have ganged up under the auspices of Igbo supremacist banner to seize our territory and now even seek the death of a fellow human being and in fact seek the extinction of Yoruba people”
