Cristiano Ronaldo has inspired a group of
astronomers to such an extent that they named
a new galaxy which was recently discovered as
CR7 in honour of the footballer. A galaxy with
the signature of first-generation stars was
recently discovered and it is believed to have
been existing when the universe was just 800
million years old according to a paper published
in The Astrophysical Journal, reported New York
Times.
Dr. David Sobral from the University of Lisbon
who led the crew of astronomers which made
the discovery said that the name of the galaxy
CR7 was inspired by none other than
Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Real Madrid star is popularly known as CR7
since his Manchester United days and the
astronomers showed why they were Ronaldo
fans by naming the galaxy that they just
discovered in honour of him.
It is believed that the galaxy CR7 has been
travelling for an astonishing 12.9 billion years.
The astronomers say that the galaxy is part of a
lost generation of stars which carried light into
the universe after Big Bang.

his initials along with the jersey number he

This in turn kick started the process of creation
of elements which was needed for life as well
as for planets and then disappeared.
These stars are believed to be more than
hundreds and thousand times more massive
than the sun itself. In short, the astronomers
believe that light came into the world through
these galaxies and also had a part to play in the
formation of life and planets.
It is a huge honour bestowed on Cristiano
Ronaldo by the astronomers as they chose his
initials for the galaxy. In some way, it has
certainly immortalized CR7 forever.
