“If we had no fault of our own, we should not take so much pleasure in noticing those in others and judging their lives as black or white, good or bad. We all live in shades of gray” (Shannon L. Alder).

With due regards, the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS congratulate the members of Senate and House of Representatives of the 8th National Assembly of Federal Republic of Nigeria for their successful inauguration. We congratulate Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the Senate President and Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy Senate President; Honourable Yakubu Dogara, Honourable Speaker and Honourable Yusuf Lasun, Deputy Speaker and all leadership of the 8th National Assembly.

It is with no doubt that democracy has taken a new shape in Nigeria as another history is made for the first time in the past 16years of the rebirth of democracy in the country that the President of the Senate and Deputy Senate President will be elected from two opposition Political Parties. The development will regain a little rebranding towards qualitative legislation, check and balances of the political decision in influencing governance.

Therefore, with the idea of malice to none and concentrated passion to all, inbuilt with political sagacity and academic dexterity; we charge the Senators and Honourable members of the 8th National Assembly to ensure decision makings that will be profitable towards the total overhauling of Nigeria Educational Sector. Nigerian Students demand inclusion in governance, national and international decision making structures that involve them.

We therefore implore the legislators to consider vividly in choice of Committees on Education related issues , those who understand the tunes of Nigeria Students and institutions that make up the educational sector, as our expectations are majorly;
1. Free and affordable education from secondary to tertiary institution
2. Reduction of exorbitant school fees
3. Solution to discrimination of certificate in employment e.g. NIS recruitment singled out HND Holders
4. Long lasting solution to HND/B.sc dichotomy
5. Subverting seasonal industrial strikes
6. Well-structured and equipped laboratories, e-library, hostels, lecture room
7. Palliative buses for schools to solve the problem of transportation
8. Compulsory ICT in all secondary schools
9. Proper security for schools and reviving education in Northeastern region
10. Educational research and international upgrading
11. Protecting Nigerian students in diaspora
12. Job creation
We seize this medium to appreciate and acknowledge the doggedness, maturity and spirit of sportsmanship of Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila and loyalist in the contest for the leadership of the 8th House of Representative. We enjoy Senator Ahmed Lawan, Senator George Akume and loyalist to swallow the bitter pills which has come fought from the mode in which the leadership of the Red chamber emanated, because when come comes to become, we shall know the physicality of a man.

Also, Nigerian Students attention has been drawn to the politicking in the process of making choice for the leadership of the 8th National Assembly; therefore we implore the Nigerian Populace not to take to mockery the decision of the leadership of APC in slating of party choice, the way it produced the President and Vice President. Many people have played opposition roles in ensuring the stability of democracy in Nigeria since 1999 therefore, people like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not be seen as a dictator rather, he remains a Political Spartan of Our Generation, considering his doggedness and steadfastness towards the actualization of common sense revolutionary changes, “A NEW NIGERIA” which has been a long-term battle fought, playing prominent role without retarding their efforts since the era of NADECO.

It is better to see an opportunity in a calamity than calamity in opportunity, the government of President Muhammadu Buhari needs concentration to be able to deliver his electoral promises, we encourage all the members of the national assembly not to forget so soon the pains Nigerians passes through to ensure a new democratic settings, therefore the hope of the Nigerian people lies in the unity and support to sustain the victory for ordinary people of Nigerian April 2015 general elections.
