Leaders of the two groups fighting for the souls of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the National Assembly are getting worried on where President Muhammadu Buhari and ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo stand, and have intensified lobbying to get their support.

The emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as the Senate president had pitched him against a powerful group of party leaders led by Senator Bola Tinubu, who had adopted Senator Ahmed Lawan as the party’s candidate for the post.

It was learnt that while the Tinubu group has remained sore on the lack of a clear support from President Buhari in the contest for the leadership of the National Assembly, it has also noted the co-ordinating role Senator Andy Uba played in rallying South East and South South senators behind Saraki.

“Uba is a known “Obasanjo boy” but how much of influence the former president could wield over him in the crucial contest for the Senate presidency has been subject of discussions in the Tinubu group,” a source told Saturday Tribune.

The Saraki group too, it was learnt, was not comfortable that the former president has refused to get his allies such as former governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Adamu and former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso to back the Senate president.

However, both sides have intensified their lobby of the two leaders with Saraki leading a team of senators and other party leaders to Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Friday.

“It is interesting that both sides appear not clear with the positions of President Buhari and ex-President Obasanjo. But the president had made it clear that he would work with anyone that emerged as leaders of the National Assembly. As for Obasanjo, his loyalists are on both sides, so who should he back?” the source asked.

Meanwhile, President Buhari and former President Obasanjo are said to be exchanging notes and keeping a close watch over the key actors.

Sources close to Buhari and Obasanjo confirmed to Saturday Tribune on Friday that the two leaders have been in constant touch over the crisis while exploring ways of reining in the gladiators in the interest of the country.

“They are talking and also keeping watch on the principal actors. The crisis won’t be allowed to affect governance. It is in the interest of everybody to get it resolved as soon as possible,” the source said.

An online medium, Premium Times, on Friday, reported the president as being in a telephone conversation with Obasanjo before Friday’s visit to the former president by Saraki.

Quoting a presidency official, the online newspaper claimed that after Obasanjo informed Buhari of Saraki’s plan to visit him, the president laughed, telling Obasanjo, “you have to see them, are they not all your boys?”

Am very sure most of the allegations levied against him are false but just because our lazy press can not do proper investigations, they resulted to speculation so that they can quickly push out stories people want to hear. I am neither here nor there as far as Tinubu is concern but am finding it quite irritating the way his story makes more headlines than the problem facing us in this country. And worse still, no body has ever pinned anything to this guy order than hearsay..And for those than uses their own brain to think, ask yourself this: how many politician can we actually trust?
