So young in heart

Did you know that women consider themselves better than us? Yes, I can prove it. I have a friend who is a woman, and I asked her "are you better than me" and she said "yes". Clearly, all women are man-hating bigots!!

This is so not true, my close friends are Eritreans i know they consider themselves to be from the horn of Africa, and do consider themselves to be beautiful but they under no condition consider themselves to be superior. I might just be saying from the view of my friends but i personally to not see them to be arrogant about their ethnicity.

I have heard lots of stuff about these guys from the Horn of Africa. It is true that Somali's consider themselves Arabs. I guess they consider themselves beautiful (I do too). However, I must say that all the ones I have interacted with are very lovely people - Somali's, Eritreans and Ethiopians. Ethiopians are particularly proud of their ancient culture as well the fact that they were never colonised as the rest of the continent was.
That having been said I recall an incident in which a Somali guy once said something about a girl's 'nappy hair'. I called him up on that at once, I told him that he may think he had nice hair, nothing wrong with that at all, but that didn't mean the girl in question did not like her own hair either. He kept away from me for a few days after that.
However those Sudanese who consider themselves Arabs need to tell their peeps to stop hassling the Southerners (this has actually been going on for centuries) cos we are all brothers and some of them are muslims like themselves(not that that has ever stopped them from dealing with them though).

I am from the area too. It is true that these Horn pples think highly of themselves and lowly of others- esp of west and southern Africans.

When i was much younger (i grew up in southern Africa) i used to hear them speak lowly of the Zambians.
In fact they called them 'Africans' "blacks" or even 'dagax' (x=pronounced as h in Djibouti/Somali) it means "stone", meaning that these pple could be insulted and beaten but they wont feel anything.

I remember fighting with these pple, esp Djiboutians who think they are in Africa by accident and are related to the French (was a colony of F).

Many Somalis and Djiboutians consider themselves of arab descent,
The Ethiopians have a superiority complex, having blood of a higher warrior-like ancestoral beings, never being colonized, etc

BUT please!! not all pples of the Horn think this way, i certainly dont and many others too.

can someone educate me? the only thing i know about ethiopia is hunger, poverty, war, famine, refugees, UN aid agencies. and recently ethiopian airlines (which i heard travels through about five countries b4 getting to UK from ethiopia.)

i'm shocked to hear people i "pity" feel superior.

i laughed in a naija way. in cardiff, they are the least of the immigrants, they live in the poorest nieghbourhoods and when u talk of people in the slums everyone here knows who it is being refered to.

people are funny, we africans are suffering and yet we have this attitude. what happens when one of these african countries makes it to greatness:i guess they'll forget the rest of the african brotherhood.

Could your friend have been an Ethiopian and not a Somali as you suggest?
I say this because it is actually the Ethios that feel like that and Somalia was colonized Italy (south somalia) france (djibouti) and Britian (Soamlailand),

Hmmm, this topic is crazy to me. Not b/c it lacks merity but b/c my experience has been totally different. I never thought or heard that Habishas feel better than Naijas. Down South they stay down w/ some Nigerians! Habisha guys at school were always trying to date a Naija gurl, they said, they were the fliest ('cause we got booties). I've had some convos w/ older Habishas and they all say "Do something great for Africa" it's never an issue.

As for their looks. Hmmm. I'm no hater. Hausas say "The beautiful ones are yet to be born" so while I do know beautiful Habishas I ain't trippin' & I don't think the most beautiful woman and/or black woman and/or African woman is or is not Habisha.

Also THEY ARE NOT ALL LIGHT!

Their "elevated status" comes from A.A. popular view that light skin, longer hair = beauty. You can accept it or not.

Again I'm in TX and while I've been to the East coast/mid-Atlantic my opinoins are shaped by TX. So if this is true of your area, I beg your pardon but please don't think that all of 'em are like this! They're not! I can vouch for 'em.

Afeni was right when he said"No Unity Based On Race"I have met many people from the East Africa,especially Ethiopians and Somalians and the fact is they don't consider themselves to be black and Africans,they are unfortunate to be on the African continent.For people who have friends from these two countries my guess is they are only tolerating you,yes you can be at their parties and clubs but when you are not looking their disgust shows.

A "friend" use to call me everytime there was a bad news a Nigeria on tv just to remind me that am Nigerian,I returned the favour whenever Ethiopia is on tv with images of starving,war torn,aids infected people,no need to say we are friends no more.
I also called him to tell how our very own Obasanjo was working hard to get complete debt relieve from western countries,which his country benefited from

I am neither Ethiopian nor Eritrean, but i am not far from there, lool i think if i told you you'd be even more surprised . I guess i am the exception of the (cultural) rule. Yes i dated a Nigerian man not because he was or wasnt Nigerian, but because i fell in love with him, madly in love, I think love knows no race etc,

Many females from the Horn, esp those in diaspora, prefer dating men who arent from the there too for many different reasons.

But please you all, not all pples from the Horn look down on other Africans,

All the Northern African Arab and Berber countries where colonized yet they consider themselves superior to Blacks and Ethopians. If the Portuguese or British or France had any interest in Ethiopoia they would have taken the country over very easily, the Italians where not formidable colonizers, hence their country being spared. In any case this is nothing new, a country in worse shape than Nigeria has people that need to feel superior in some way so look down on us, its part of the Eurocentric view on racial, ethnic, and cultural superiority and its pervasion in the whole world. They do dominante the whole world for the most part, ofcourse idiots and classless and ignorant people will do their best to conform to their ideals, I mean, even us Nigerians relax our perfectly beautiful hair to look European. No culture or country has been spared from such bullshit.
