CHAOS! As UNIMAID Students Protest Against Insufficient Power Supply by Dbrainiac1(m): 9:13am On Jun 21, 2015
Chaos evoked as inhabitants of the prestigious Sardauna Hall (C BLOCK BOYS' HOSTEL) Unimaid carried out a demonstration due to insufficient supply of electricity to the hall of residence. Most of the students complained that the gen operator doesn't give out electricity as per d university's specifications (6pm -11pm daily), and also some nights were spent in darkness with no electricity at all, having in mind that there hasn't been electricity supply by the PHCN for over a month now. What all led to the protest was the failure of the operator to on the generator on Saturday evening(due to some technical difficulties) as many students were waiting in anticipation to iron and get set for sunday morning. The operator was locked up in the powerhouse and not allowed out till he starts the gen, with threats of him spending the night there if at all no electricity was supplied. The SUG tried to intervene but were pursued and nearly mobbed by the angry students, which the students not contented proceeded to vandalize the SUG Presidential villa (still in the same hall of residence),breaking the doors and windows, furniture and electrical appliances. At long last, security officers came and intervened trying to restore order and made sure effort was made to repair and start the engine. It took till 9pm before the gen was back working and students were assured that they'll get the normal five hours supply, which lasted till 2am.
