Aregbesola Impeachment: Osun Assembly Sends Him Judge's Petition by Firefire(m): 2:07am On Jun 25, 2015 |
SPEAKER of the Osun State House of Assembly, Honourable Najeem Salaam, on Wednesday, confirmed the receipt of a copy of the petition written by a serving female judge in the state, Justice Folahanmi Oloyede against Governor Rauf Aregbesola, over non-payment of salaries. Similarly, Nigerian Tribune reliably gathered that the assembly had forwarded a letter of acknowledgment to Justice Oloyede, indicating that her petition had been received, while also sending a copy of the petition to the governor for his defence. Speaking during interaction with journalists in Osogbo, on Wednesday, the speaker said “I can confirm that the assembly received the petition. But, there is an ongoing strike now, therefore, we cannot do anything serious on it.” According to Salaam, “a copy of the petition had been sent to Governor Aregbesola for him to state his own defence.” Credible source within the legislature also informed the Nigerian Tribune that the assembly had written another letter to Aregbesola, requesting him to react to the content of the petition. Speaking on the development, the clerk of the assembly, Mr Mudashiru Oyeniran, confirmed the receipt of the petition, stressing that work would begin on it at the appropriate time. Justice Oloyede had called on the state House of Assembly to investigate the alleged mismanagement of the state financial resources by the governor and his deputy, in accordance with sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution, saying there was no moral justification for their continued stay in office. In a 30-page petition, she urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, Amnesty International, Transparency International, among others, to investigate any other person found to be responsible for what he described as “deliberate mismanagement of the economy of Osun State.” The petition read in part: “I declare that in addition to the media-hype of Osun’s parlous financial condition, I have firsthand experience which constitutes evidence of the unfortunate situation in which Osun currently finds itself. Even Mr Governor has admitted publicly the fact that Osun is in financial quagmire and that he is clueless on how to pull it out of the doldrums. “Mr Governor’s argument that salaries can only be paid from statutory allocations is also faulty, we demand that he substantiate his claim by giving the section of the law that so provides. In any event, all funds, all allocations and all expenditures are expected to be backed by legislation, and are statutory, otherwise, they are illegal. “Consequently, the admitted inability of Mr Governor and his deputy to pay pensions, salaries and allowances for periods ranging from eight to 11 months now, as a consequence of their own decision to accumulate debts beyond the capacity of the state internally generated revenue, whilst the very ‘actors’ Mr Governor and his deputy continue to enjoy their security allowances in hundreds of millions, is a violation of their oaths of office.” http://tribuneonlineng.com/content/call-impeachment-osun-assembly-sends-judges-petition-aregbesola-his-defence Cc: Lalasticlala, Ishilove 19 Likes 5 Shares

Nigerians must find a way of changing or replacing their leaders in quick succession if possible. The politicians have gotten too comfortable on their seats and that has emboldened them to misbehave and misgovern. The way they talk, lie, dress and conduct themselves are all signs of an institution out of alignment with the people and time. 13 Likes 1 Share |

I hope the part that says the Governor and his deputy continue enjoy their security vote is one big lie. If true, then they both deserve to go. In addition I think this is an eye opener to the fact the type of economy we run here in Nigeria is so bad. The worker can't resign because they know their 'labour' does not generate any money directly to their employers if it does at all. The man was happy to further distribute what the FG couldn't finish distributing with his many stomach infrastructural scheme. Imagine if the confused people hadn't grab moree mission run schools, hadn't been feedimg touts, hadn't been paying himself N400 million Naira monthly and had instead engaged the populace in business that can meet the food, shelter, and transportation needs of other states. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Aregbeshola has really brought shame to himself , never believe it could get worse to this level. I praised him on his 1st term even though He wasn't so spectacular then but getting worse by the day,Hope He keeps to the promise to pay by month end. THE 2ND TERM SYNDROME 6 Likes |

Aregbese is another name for failure, but I don't think he will be impeached, since all the law makers in the state are in his pocket... I think the decision to "impeach" anything APC in osun lies in the hands of registered voters in that state during the next election... They have tasted "CHANGE" and the "CHANGE" seems to be they(the people of osun) have been "SHORTCHANGED"...IMHO 23 Likes 1 Share |

On a normal day, I usually would support Aregbesola, but on this issue, he has been too relaxed and non-committed. He talks like he's helpless on the payment of salaries as if he wont pay if fg doesn't give allocation. The most annoying part is that this same man maintains a private jet which purportedly belongs to the state government and is also hell bent on creating more local governments as if its a priority right now 23 Likes |

Profligacy to the highest order but wait o, what did the governor spend money on that made him incur so much debt and not even paying civil servants salaries? I suppose the money was spent on election. Most of the executives that occupied high post in the last administration of GEJ are reckless. In as much as am a staunch supporter of APC and respecter of change, EVERYONE MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE............ 3 Likes |

Rauf Aregbeshola embarked on too many infrastructural projects. In the educational sector, for example, he built new blocks of classrooms and assembly halls when he could have ordinarilly renovated the existing ones. This was the complaint I got from some teachers some years ago in Oduduwa College, Ile-Ife during the WAEC marking exercise. Osu a dara. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Firefire: the same way Jonathan resigned honorably? Lol question: do taniods know wat honour is? Anyways, while ultimately the buck falls on ogbenis table, the judge should know the fall of oil prices remains the chief reason osun can np longer meet its obligation not the accumulation of debts. 1 Like |

vedaxcool: So the states that are not owing were not affected by the drop in oil price right The bolded is the height of insensitivity and this one of the reason why nigeria is where it is today, if you were one of those been owed for simply working their butts off you will not be making this kind of comments... Don't let your party affiliation blind you to the glaring failure of aregbe...SMH 42 Likes 4 Shares |
