500GP:
The National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency has declared that the most
dangerous drugs circulated in the
country are produced in Anambra State.
The state NDLEA Commander, Mr. Sule
Momodu, who made the declaration on
Saturday at the Women’s Development
Centre in Awka to mark the 2015
United Nations Day against Drug Abuse
and Trafficking, identified one of the
dangerous drugs produced in the state
as methamphetamine
Momodu expressed worry over the
increasing production of illicit drugs,
abuse and trafficking in the state and
called for a concerted effort to stop the
development.
He disclosed that the anti-drug abuse
and trafficking agency arrested at least
122 drug suspects between January and
June this year. While 114 of them were
men, eight were women.
A total of 110.624kg of illicit drug, he
said, was seized during the period under
review with cannabis sativa known as
marijuana topping with 107.26kg.
Other seizures were cocaine, 138.2
grammes, heroine, 100.54grammes,
liquid methamphetamine 2.615kg and
solid methamphetamine 510 grammes.
The NDLEA commander said the agency
also arraigned 22 suspects during the
period, out of which eight convictions
were obtained while 28 fresh cases
were filed.
He expressed optimism that the agency
would fight drug abuse and trafficking in
the state, asking stakeholders to join
hands in the campaign against drug
abuse.
Momodu warned that if the war against
illicit drug use and trafficking “is not won
now, the scourge will take over the
society soonest.”
He lauded the state Governor, Willie
Obiano, for the support he had given to
the agency, especially involving it in the
State Security Council and the approval
of a parcel of land in Awka, the state
capital, for the building of the agency’s
rehabilitation centre.
Momodu, however, called for the
inauguration of the state Drug Control
Committee to help drive national drug
control plans and objectives.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr.
Jesophat Akabuike, who represented
the governor at the event, restated the
state’s commitment to the fight against
crime in the state, including drug abuse
and trafficking.

http://www.today.ng/metro/ndlea-destroys-another-43-hectare-cannabis-plantation-in-oyo-state/

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday called on the Oyo State Government to partner with it in curbing illegal cannabis planting in the state.

The NDLEA Commander in the state, Mrs Faboyede Omolade, made the call while addressing newsmen at the Seriki Gambari Forest Reserve in Oluyole Local Government Area.

The agency, in a five-hour joint operation, destroyed a 43-hectare cannabis plantation at the forest reserve.

NAN reports that no arrest was made.

The exercise was conducted by operatives from the NDLEA, Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Others included operatives of the Department of State Security Services (DSS) as well as officials of the Oyo State Ministry of Natural Resources and Forest Reserve.

NAN recalls that NDLEA had on June 11 raided the same forest reserve and destroyed 24 hectares of cannabis plantation.

The NDLEA boss said: “In order to achieve our goal of tackling drug trafficking and cannabis cultivation we need to partner with the state government.

“We were here last week and it is shocking to discover another 43 hectares of cannabis and from what we are looking at, it can extend to about 2,000 hectares.

“If the state government bring investors to cultivate the land for agricultural purposes, it will be occupied and it will also serve as a means of empowering youths for employment.

The commander said that if more youths were engaged, there would be a reduction in illegal activities.

According to her, the forest reserve covers about 11, 000 hectares and agricultural activities will ensure that the forest is not destroyed further.

“We are not relenting in our efforts and we intend to strategise the more while hoping that we get assistance from our foreign partners,” she said.

This is one of those Omanbala "billionaires", caught red-handed -- these guys play in the big leagues compared to other states. cheesy

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) yesterday said it had arrested a suspected drug baron who specialised in sponsoring drug couriers to China, Malaysia, Turkey, Italy and other foreign countries.

Addressing journalists at office of the agency at Ikoyi, Lagos, the NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade, said the 37-year-old suspect, Sylvester Chukwunwendu, was also a producer of methamphetamine in Anambra State. Giade said that Chukwunwendu was arrested at Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State based on intelligence report received by the agency on April 23, 2014.

The suspect was said to be deeply involved in unlawful exportation of illicit drugs and running a methamphetamine production laboratory in his house at No. 2, St. James Close, Ajao Estate, Isolo, Lagos. Chukwunwendu, aka Blessed, was alleged to be the owner of the laboratory and leader of an international drug trafficking organisation which recruits and sponsors drug couriers to foreign countries. Giade said that sufficient evidence had been gathered to ease the prosecution of the suspect.

He said: “The Special Enforcement Team (SET) of the agency has concluded a model investigation of an international Drug Trafficking Organisation (DTO), after 13 months intense surveillance on the suspect before he was finally arrested.” According to the chairman, the suspect hides under the cover of different businesses in running his drug business with international affiliation.

Some of his companies include Blessed Benita Global Limited, Ideal Motorcycle Company Limited and God’s Special Enterprise Limited. He added: “Some of his couriers to China, Malaysia, Turkey and Italy were usually paid an average of $5,000 per trip.” It was further gathered that the suspect hired one Raphael, a professional methamphetamine cook, to work for him.

The said Raphael is paid N500,000 for his service and N700,000 for the purchase of precursor chemicals per production cycle. Items recovered from the suspect’s residence include 2.615kg of liquid methamphetamine found inside a yellow plastic jug, 250 grams of crystallised methamphetamine concealed in a white polythene bag and some laboratory equipment. Also recovered are two Nigerian international passports, one Ghanaian passport all bearing Chukwunwendu’s photographs, with different names.

There are also one measuring scale, six heating filters, six giant conical flasks, industrial tubes and cups of sodium hydroxide. Giade disclosed that in another development, 23kg of methamphetamine was intercepted along Badagry Expressway, Lagos, en-route Cotonou. The suspect, identified as Azubike, is standing trial at the Federal High Court, Lagos in respect of the seizure. In his confessional statement, Azubike said he was sponsored by Chukwunwendu.

The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered another suspected ritual killers’ den in Unity and Peace Estate along Itele-Lafenwa Road, Ota in the Ado Odo-Ota Local Government Area. The latest discovery was made possible by the escape of a 28-year-old lady, who had been kept in an uncompleted building in the estate, bound hands and feet. The lady was said to have been abducted, blindfolded, gagged and dumped in the den. She was reportedly told by her captors that they would come for her in the night on Wednesday. But she was said to have struggled to free herself and rolled towards the entrance of the building. It was learnt that some passersby in the area saw her and came to her rescue. Policemen from the Itele Police Station, who were later invited to the scene, were said to have cordoned off the area. When the policemen combed the surroundings of the uncompleted building, decomposing bodies of two female victims were said to have been found. Suspected bones of other victims also littered the place. The lady told PUNCH Metro that she had met one of her captors two weeks before the incident, and they started a relationship. She explained that the man called her on Monday that he had secured a contract of N1.5m for her at a site in the estate. She added that the man told her that she would supply bags of cement worth that amount. The victim said on getting to the site, the lover, was joined by another person, who abducted her. She said, “I met one of the ritual killers about two weeks ago and we started a relationship. The guy told me that he was a contractor and promised to link me up with people who would give me juicy contracts. “The man called me two days ago and told me about a contract worth about N1.5m, but I could not meet him because I was sick. The man later came to my residence in Lagos and still persuaded me to come for the deal. “On getting to the Unity and Peace Estate, we headed for an uncompleted building. One other person joined us. When we got to the building, I saw that the house had been plastered and the floor had been cemented. “But both of them pounced on me, beat me up and attempted to rape me. I was having my monthly flow and that dissuaded them. “They then tied my hands and legs, blindfolded and gagged me. They promised to come back at night to complete their assignment. It was a miracle that passers-by rescued me.” Some residents of the community, who spoke with journalists, said they were startled at the discovery. Some of them claimed that they always smelt some unpleasant odour from the area, but believed it emanated from a poultry farm nearby. It was gathered that the policemen had arrested the owner of the building, while the suspected ritual killers had fled. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident. He said two decomposing bodies and some human skeletons were recovered from the scene. He said, “The command has taken over the building and our men will take some samples from the scene for forensic analysis to assist in investigation.” Copyright PUNCH.All rights reserved. As the uproar over the discovery of a
kidnappers den at Soka community in Oluyole
Local Government Area of Ibadan the Oyo
State capital southwest Nigeria is yet to die
down, the state police command has confirmed
the arrest of thirteen suspected ritual killers in
connection with the gruesome act.
Police Public Relation Officer Superintendent
Olabisi Okunwobi Ilobamafor told AIT that the
Inspector General of Police Mohammed
Abubakar has sent five detectives and one
pathologist to assist the command in fishing
out perpetrators of the act.
Many of our thick forests are being used as
slaughterhouse where human beings are being
butchered for ritual purposes. The Soka
community incident in Ibadan brings to mind
the Okija shrine saga. The discovery of Soka,
where over a thousand people have been
killed by kidnappers was said to have been
made when some people who were looking for
their missing family members stumbled on
the building at Soka, in an underdeveloped
part of the community. The most surprising is
on the road that leads to the killers hide out,
there are foreign companies who on a daily
basis operate and transact business. Shortly
after the discovery, Police made some arrest
and in that process, eight people were
rescued. During the rescue mission however,
one woman dropped dead.
Speaking on the matter, Olabisi Okunwobi
Ilobamafor said, “We made six arrest that day
and we are taking the case to the state
criminal investigation department for further
investigation. Those that were rescued at
Adoayo are receiving treatment while
investigation is on going as it relates to the
matter on ground”.
The state Governor Abiola Ajimobi and
Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge
of zone 11; Femi Omolaja was accompanied to
the place by the state Commissioner of Police
said justice will prevail.
Governor Ajimobi who was shocked by the
discovery said, “It is surprising that such a
thing existed here for a long time”.
Femi Omolaja added that, “All those connected
with this crime were arrested and will be
prosecuted in the law court”.
Very close to this building is a tree that houses
white birds which probably feast on the
remains of the dead bodies with flies
everywhere and odour that cannot be
contained.
The area is guarded round the clock by Anti
Terrorism Section, armored personnel carrier
and vigilant police officers.
The building, which housed the kidnappers, is
yet to be brought down as investigators are
still searching for remains of those who may
have been killed by the kidnappers. However,
residents of the area are indefensible to claim
ignorance of the activities of the kidnappers.

• Relatives besiege hideout in search of missing
kinsmen
By Ademola Babalola
The police in Oyo State have arrested seven persons
in connection with the discovery of a kidnappers' den
at Soka area on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The den, located in Oluyole Local Government Area
of the state, and littered with severed human parts
of scores of yet-to-be identified victims of ritual
killers, was discovered on Saturday.
No fewer than 20 decomposed bodies were
discovered while about 23 people, comprising 18
males and five females who were looking gaunt,
were found with their legs manacled at an
uncompleted building in the den.
One of the women was said to have been delivered
of a baby early yesterday, but the infant was sold.
The woman was brought out of the bush with
bloodstains on her body.
She could not tell anyone how she got to the place,
before she fainted after uttering some words.
It was gathered that the den was where human parts
were freely sold to people who often come to the
area at night.
The police yesterday confirmed the arrest of seven
persons in connection with the discovery of human
parts in the bush.
Those arrested were two persons found in the
building and five security personnel working in a
nearby company.
A statement by the police spokesman, Bisi
Ilobanafor, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said the
State Criminal Investigation Department had begun
investigation into the incident.
She explained that a group of 100 area boys had
invaded the area in search of two missing cyclists
when they discovered an uncompleted building
where some persons were found.
They also found decayed corpses and skeletons in a
nearby bush while one Abideen Akanmu who
claimed to have been employed by one Gbadamosi,
now at large, was arrested in the building.
She said those arrested were being charged with
murder and unlawful possession of firearms while
the destitute rescued from the building had been
taken to a hospital for treatment.
Corpses found have also been deposited at the
morgue.
Items recovered from the building were three dane
guns, three single barrel guns, one bow, 16 arrows,
22 cutlasses, 40 live cartridges, seven knives, an axe,
two iron files and a phone.
Meanwhile, relatives of missing persons have
stormed the area in search of their lost ones
following reports that there were still some people
hidden in the dungeon, crying for help.
However, other people came to get a glimpse of the
gory sight of decomposed bodies and human
skeletons.
One of those who visited the place, who gave his
name as Kolawole Falana, said he came looking for
one Dare, 18, who had been declared missing for
about a week.
He explained that he joined in the search for Dare
yesterday only for security agents stationed in the
area to descend on him for no just cause.
Falana, who had some bruises on his face as a result
of the manhandling by the police, called on the state
government to move to the site and demolish all the
structures there to safeguard the public.
All the way from Gbongan in Osun State also came
two men who said they came looking for their 95-
year-old father, Isaac Adeoye Oguntade, who had
been missing since December 31, 2013.
They explained that Oguntade, a retired teacher, had
left home for Osogbo to collect his pension from a
bank but had not returned since then.

NDLEA arrests 31 drug suspects in Anambra

JUNE 2, 2015 : TONY OKAFOR, AWKA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Anambra State command, on Tuesday said it arrested 31 drug suspects in the state in May.
According to the agency, the 31 suspects were males.

State commandant of the agency, Mr Sule Momodu, made this known in a press briefing in Awka, the state capital.

He said in the month under review, the agency seized cannabis sativa weighing 39.703kg, 27.4 grammes of cocaine, 8.6 grammes of heroin, 510 grammes of methamphetamine solid, and 2.625kg of methamphetamine liquid, all totaling 42.864 kg of drugs.
Momodu added that in May, the agency secured the conviction in court of three drug dealers in the state.

He appealed to the public to avail his agency of information that would lead to the arrest of more criminals in the state while assuring such informers of their protection.

The commandant commended the state governor, Willie Obiano, for his assistance to the agency and other security agencies in the state.
Momodu stated, “Obiano has done well in the area of security and should be supported. Everybody should encourage the Governor for his zero tolerance for drug abuse and crime.

“Since he came on board, Anambra State has experienced peaceful atmosphere devoid of crime, and drug related offences have been reduced drastically.

‘We have a mandate of reducing drugs in the streets of Anambra State to the barest minimum and to make Anambra safe for local and foreign investors.”

NDLEA arrests Nigerians travelling to China, Turkey, others, with illicit drugs

June 10, 2015 Ben Ezeamalu

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 38-year-old man, Godfrey Nwoye, at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, for concealing 1.283 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa inside garri on his way to Guangzhou, China.

Mr. Nwoye, who hails from Ukpommili Village in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, said he wanted to sell the cannabis in China and use the proceeds to buy goods.

Another suspect, Samuel Anele, a commercial tricycle rider aboard a flight to Bombay, India, was arrested with 4.892 kilogrammes of methamphetamine, the NDLEA said in a statement Wednesday.
Mr. Anele, 45, and other suspects were arrested for offences ranging from concealing illicit drugs in their luggage to ingesting the drugs, according to the NDLEA said.

The suspects were arrested on their way to Turkey, China, and Hong Kong with 8.876kg of various narcotic drugs.
“The suspects are helping our team of investigators,” said Nsikak-Abasi Udoh, NDLEA commander at the Enugu Airport.
Mr. Anele was caught with 4.892kg concealed in false bottom of his luggage aboard an Ethiopian Airline on the Enugu-Addis Ababa-Bombay route.
“Life is not fair to me. Every day it is one problem after another and the money I earn is not enough,” said Mr. Anele, from Ichi village, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
“It was frustration that made me to smuggle drugs. They promised me that the drug has been properly hidden and that when I return they will pay me the sum of one million naira.

“At the airport, my bag was searched and the drug detected. Now I am now left alone to suffer.”
The other suspects, Emmanuel Chukwuebuka, was caught with 1.293kg of cocaine on his way to Istanbul, Turkey; and Eric Ukaeji was found with 1.408kg of cocaine on his way to Hong Kong.

Mr. Chukwuebuka, 31, hails from Ezioko in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. He ingested 1.293kg of substances that tested positive for cocaine. He was to depart Enugu to Istanbul through Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airline flight.
His reason for trafficking in drugs was to raise more money for his business, according to the NDLEA.
The suspect said that he would have received US$ 3,000 on arrival in Turkey. He is married with a child.

Mr. Ukaeji, 43, who hails from Ajali in Orumba Local Government Area of Anambra State ingested cocaine weighing 1.408 kilograms.
His route is Enugu-Addis Ababa-Hong Kong on an Ethiopian Airline, the NDLEA said.

Mr. Ukaeji said that he wanted to raise money for his business and the treatment of his sick daughter.
“I used to buy clothes from Hong Kong. I am married with three children. I dropped out of school in Junior Secondary class 3,” said Mr. Ukaeji.
“They promised to pay me 5,000 dollars on delivery in Hong Kong which I would have used to buy goods.”

Ahmadu Giade, the NDLEA Chairman, said that the Agency would continue to step up security checks at the nation’s entry and exit points.

Nigerian Actress Arrested With Cocaine, Wunmi Says Drug Dealers Forced Her To Take Okro Pills May 4, 2015 – Nollywood Yoruba Actress Arrested With Cocaine Drug In 2007, Yetunde Wunmi Says Drug Dealers Forced Her To Take Pills With Okro Popular Yoruba actress Akinwande Taiwo Hassanat aka Yetunde Wunmi who got arrested with Cocaine drugs back in 2007 is yet to forget her bitter experience. In an exclusive chat with City People Magazine, the actress narrated how her first husband sent her packing when she joined Nollywood. The actress also narrated her adventure into the drug business. See interview excerpts: How did you join the movie industry? I started through my boss, Mr Sunday Akinola, fondly called Mogaji Feyokogbon. that was in 1981. Then I was 20 years old. There were no home video then, it was just stage play and he owned a theatre group in ipaja. What were the challenges you faced when you started? My husband didn’t like it. We had four kids but we lost one. So he told me to make a choice between him and acting. After much begging as I couldn’t let go of my passion for acting, he threw me out. I left and rented a room apartment with my kids. Did you try marriage again? Yes I did. He also didn’t like me acting. It took intervention of people before he allowed me back into acting. Is any of your kids acting as well? Yes, my first child. She’s 38 and she acted in my first film after the cocaine saga. How were you lured into cocaine business? I was introduced by a friend. Then acting was no longer lucrative, she told me to do it and the money she told me I will collect was huge, not thinking of the consequences, I decided to give it a try. God loves me, maybe if I was successful maybe I would have continued. I haven’t even left the airport before I was arrested How did it happen? I swallowed the pills with Okro. The dealer was happy I swallowed plenty. My heart was strong, when I got to the airport, they told me I had cocaine in me. After the scan, I was ordered that I should be handcuffed. It was then I knew I was in deep shit. I couldn’t pray for 2days. It was when they took me to my house that I began to feel remorse. All my kids fainted on seeing me. They took my car the next day, newspapers carried the news, so people were reading. The first statement that came from my mouth was, God please vindicate me. How did you know you would be vindicated? It was from my dreams. I had it three times before the judgement day, the court room was filled to brim. I was sentenced to 3years imprisonment or a fine of N1 million. The money was contributed at the court room. Did you see your friends after that day? No, I didn’t, till date. Have you missed any opportunity because you are not educated? If am opportune to be back to this world, I would choose education first before marriage. I wasn’t opportune to go to school, my parents were separated, and I had to live with my dad’s younger brother. I missed so many opportunities because of this, I couldn’t act in Papa Ajasco and many other film. The actress excreted 92 wraps of Cocaine pills hours after her arrest. Related Posts:

ans of popular Nigerian actress Hassanat Taiwo Akinwande are still shocked by her fall from grace. The star of Nigeria's film industry, known as Nollywood, appeared in court last week charged with trying to smuggle drugs to the UK. Some of them say they will now boycott films she has starred in "because she has disgraced her fans and country". Miss Akinwande, who uses the stage name Wunmi, was arrested in September by officials of the Nigerian National Drug Law Enforcement Agency while trying to get on board a London-bound Virgin Atlantic flight from Lagos. After a few days in detention Wunmi, who is famous for her roles in Nigerian movies that preach morality, had excreted 92 wraps of high-quality cocaine weighing in at 1.214 kg, according to the prosecution. Reaction "I am really disappointed in her," Jide Osinowo, a taxi driver in Abuja told the BBC. "I and my family used to watch her films because they taught children lessons about how to grow up and become responsible citizens and now this! I even heard that she was crying in the court and saying she was not guilty. Well, we shall see." "With this whole cocaine business, I have no reason whatsoever to watch any of her movies," Nollywood film buff Sola told the BBC. But some of Wunmi's fans are sympathetic. "It's the work of the devil," Kemi Makoju, a self- confessed Wunmi fan said at a video rental store in Abuja. "She is not the kind of person to do something like this. I'm not going to stop watching her films just because of this small thing." Disrepute Wunmi's colleagues in Africa's fastest-growing film industry were not so sympathetic. Following her arrest, the Association of Nigerian Theatre Practitioners quickly suspended Wunmi from its ranks saying her conduct had brought the industry into disrepute. Wunmi's fans and fellow actors now appear to be avoiding her. When she was charged before Lagos high court last week, her fans and colleagues uncharacteristically avoided the court premises. Abandoned and alone, Wunmi wept freely and told the judge she did not speak any English. Her confession was greeted with subdued sniggers from the gallery who clearly thought Wunmi had taken her acting to the court room. "Mi o jebi, sir" - Yoruba for 'I'm not guilty, sir' - she responded when the one-count charge of illegal drug possession was read to her. Pioneer Wunmi, a single mother of two was a Nollywood pioneer with a career that dates back to the 1980s when she first appeared in a popular Yoruba language soap opera called Feyi Kogbon, Yoruba for 'Learn from this'. She's starred in over 50 low- budget Nigerian home videos which are usually shot in six weeks or less. One of the Yoruba language movies Wunmi starred in is Ajeniyonu, Yoruba for 'making money is a risky venture.' It is indeed a big risk Wunmi may have taken, for if convicted she faces spending the rest of her acting career in jail. However, her arrest, ironically, has reportedly led to a renewed interest in movies she starred in. "It's a good advert for us because more people are now asking for her films," Uchenna Obiefuna who sells pirated CDs and DVDs in Abuja's central Wuse Market told the BBC. "Yes, I feel sorry for her, but our people also say one man's downfall may be the opportunity another is waiting for to rise." "No be my fault, na God - it's not my doing, it's God's," he adds in Nigerian Pidgin English, shrugging. Nigeria is reputed to be the hub of African drugs trafficking. Although marijuana is the only drug cultivated in the country, Nigerians have been caught in the past smuggling South American cocaine to Europe and other parts of Africa. A recent United Nations report which studied drug trafficking in West Africa found that Nigerians were responsible for most of the cocaine smuggled into the UK by the so-called "stuffers and swallowers" who swallow drugs wrapped in condoms for later retrieval. NAFDAC declares billionaire fake drug suspect wanted, arrests printer, others

Saves two Nigerians abroad from execution

FOR possessing several warehouses where counterfeit medicines are stored and for counterfeiting medicines, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Tuesday declared one Mr. Keneth Okereke wanted.

According to the agency, Okereke has been on the run after he was discovered to possess three major warehouses containing counterfeit drugs valued at about N1billion.

Briefing journalists on the development Tuesday, NAFDAC Director General, Dr. Paul Orhii stated that Okereke nearly overran the police officers that tried to arrest him with his car before fleeing to unknown destination.

The DG, however, stated that a manhunt has been launched for the fleeing suspect, as security operatives within the country and at border posts have put on his trail.

Meanwhile, the agency has again saved two Nigerians from execution in China and Malaysia where drug trafficking attracts capital punishment. At the same time, anti-narcotic officers at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA) Enugu, apprehended four suspected drug traffickers in connection with unlawful importation and exportation of illicit drugs that tested positive for cocaine, amphetamine and cannabis with a total weight of 25.25kg.

Also, the agency also yesterday paraded Mr. Victor Okeke-Chinonyeluma for the forgery of NAFDAC’s, Nigerian Customs Service’s (NCS), Nigeria Immigration Service’s (NIS) and various banks’ documents; and the quartet of Mr. Tochukwu Michael-Ozala, Mr. Ifeanyi Okoro, Mr. Peter Nwannwbuife and Mr. Nnaka Christian for counterfeiting Codrux Codeine cough syrup and Coflin cough syrup in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Orhii added that Okereke, who is also known as Agama, resided at House 3, Ameze Street, off Magodo Road, Shangisha, near Magodo, Lagos, before taking to his heels.

The NAFDAC DG stated that the following counterfeit medicines had been discovered in Okereke’s illegal warehouse: “Tarivid 200 milligramme (mg) tablet, Augmentin 625 mg tablet, Proviron tablet, Novasc tablet, Glucophase 500mg tablet, GSK hologram for loparex, Ciprotab (antibiotics), unlabelled injections, Lexotan tablet (for treating anxiety), Septrin packing material, Ampiclox packaging material, and Cytotec-200mcg (misoprostol) tablet,” which is used to start labour, induce abortions, prevent and treat stomach ulcers, among other drugs.

Orhii said because of Okereke’s heinous crime, the Agency had declared him wanted. He implored members of the public with any useful information that may lead to his arrest to get in touch with the nearest NAFDAC formation, the police or the other security outfits. “We assure members of the public of utmost confidentiality in this regard,” he said.

On Okeke-Chinonyeluma, Orhii said that the agency has been on the trail of the suspect since 2013 for “forging stamps for Option Freight International Limited (a clearing company) to facilitate the clearance of 1 by 20 feet and 1 by 40 feet containers of herbal drugs and herbal tea imported by Tianshi Health Products Company Limited,” adding that investigations revealed that Option Freight International Limited sublet the clearing job to Truth Okey Cargo Nigeria.

Orhii explained: “It was in the course of processing the clearance of the consignment that Mr. Victor Okeke-Chinonyeluma was contacted by a staff of Truth Key to forge the stamps.”

When arrested, Okeke-Chinonyeluma, the NAFDAC boss said, was found to illegally possess the following sensitive documents: NAFDAC import permit forms (I unit), 14 packs of Entry for NAFDAC regulated product for different companies, large quantity of Bill of Lading form, international passport belonging to Mr. Awunor Steve Emeka, forged letter from D/C (revenue recovery) NCS, Apapa Command to the Managing Director of APM terminal Apapa for the release of a container, large quantity of Union Bank of Nigeria custom revenue receipt, copies of First Bank Custom revenue receipt, copies of Skye Bank Pay-in form duty collection, among others. Orhii said the suspect shall be charged to court.

But Okeke-Chinonyeluma told the media that he was a clearing and forwarding agent before he was arrested.

Speaking on other four, Orhii stated that, “Okoro, who is a printer prints the fake packaging materials of the counterfeit cough syrup for Michael-Ozala and his associates who manufacture the counterfeit products.” He added that the counterfeit products were often released into circulation by the trio of Michael-Ozala, Nwannwbuife and Christian “who sell these dangerous products in the market.” He said all the suspects shall be charged to court.

Agreeing to the crime, Okoro said he was misled by his business colleagues into believing that they were into genuine business.

He, however, urged the agency to sensitise printers under the Association of Professional Printers of Nigeria so that other printers would not fall victim of the law.

In a release signed by Head, Public Affairs, Ofoyeju Mitchell, two of the drug suspects Okafor Chidimma Deburah, a 30-year-old professional dancer was going to Malaysia with 3.450kg of amphetamine hidden in jeans trouser while Utobo Prince Davies Chidiebere, 33-year-old trader was found with 17.800kg of cannabis hidden inside bitter leaf on his way to China. The remaining two suspects were arrested while returning from Brazil. They are; Nwachukwu Nwadi Victor, 45, found with 2.200kg of cocaine hidden inside a music player and Celestine Okoye Ugochukwu, 40, who hid 800 grammes of cocaine inside the handle of his luggage.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Ahmadu Giade called on stakeholders to treat drug control programmes as top priority since it involves life. “Let me make a passionate appeal to stakeholders to give priority attention to drug control because it has to do with life and death. The two suspects going to China and Malaysia would have died prematurely if not for the vigilance of officers. Besides, the lives of addicts who use the drugs are also endangered. We need public enlightenment because while we are intensifying narcotic checks what of those that took drugs from other countries. This is a serious challenge and we must contribute our quota” Giade stated.

NDLEA commander at the Enugu Airport, Nsikak-Abasi Udoh said that all four arrests were made during routine checks. According to Udoh, “those arrested include a dancer, two traders and a factory worker. They were randomly intercepted during screening of Ethiopian Airline flights. The suspects have provided us with useful information for further investigation. The command will charge them to court soon”.

In her statement, Deburah who hails from Imo State said that she was promised the sum of 3,500 dollars. “I am a dancer. I was broke and needed money. I have been approached on many occasions to smuggle drugs but I turned down the proposal. They paid my return ticket and offered me 3,500 dollars. The drug was concealed in jeans trousers. I thought that I could earn some quick money in few days” Deburah stated.

Utobo Prince Davies Chidebere said that he needed money for the shipment of his goods from China to Nigeria. “I am a trader, I bought some goods but I have no money for the shipment. A friend in China told me that if I can smuggle cannabis to China, I can earn good money for the shipment of my goods and extra money for myself. I never knew that they will detect the drug because it was carefully hidden” Utobo who hails from Ebonyi States told investigators.

Nwachukwu Nwadi Victor, a factory worker in Brazil said that he bought drugs for ten thousand dollars in Brazil. “I am a factory worker in Brazil. I had family problem in Nigeria to settle so I decided to buy cocaine with 10,000 dollars. I would have made over 300 percent profits if I had succeeded in bringing the drugs. The drug was packed inside a music player, yet the officers detected it,” Nwachukwu stated. He hails from Anambra State.

Celestine Okoye Ugochukwu had everything carefully planned but not good enough to go undetected. “I smuggled drugs because I needed money. The drug was hidden in the handle of my luggage. I am just unfortunate because I had a good plan. I do not know what went wrong but such is life,” Celestine stated without remorse. He hails from Anambra State.

Nollywood star Baba Suwe beats drug rap after prison toilet watch Fans and media follow three weeks of bowel movements, which produce no evidence that comedian smuggled cocaine in stomach More news Topics Nigeria Africa Drugs trade Baba Suwe with the crowd outside Lagos high court after his release. Photograph: Pius Utomi Ekpei/AFP/Getty Images Monica Mark in Abuja Friday 4 November 2011 14.09 GMT The scene could have been taken from one of the larger-than- life Nollywood films comedies that made Baba Suwe one of Nigeria's most popular actors. But a judge was deadly serious when she asked the comedian, who had spent three weeks in jail on suspicion of smuggling drugs in his stomach: "So you've been to the toilet how many times?" Tens of thousands of fans, the national drug enforcement agency and two legal teams have been in thrall to the actor's next release, so to speak. But Suwe's failure produce a single bag of cocaine in any of the 18 or so bowel movements detectives have been closely monitoring has turned into an embarrassment for the agency – and a running joke in the local media. Suwe, 58, real name Babatunde Omidina, is often cast as a goofy security guard in the wildly popular Nigerian film industry, known as Nollywood. But the roles appeared to have been reversed when, apparently acting on a tip-off, anti- narcotics agents arrested the comedian at Lagos airport on 12 October. They said scans revealed "multiple hyper-dense nodular particles in the upper gastro-intestinal tract, consistent with large amount of drug ingestion". Alternatively, according to other officers interviewed by a newspaper, Suwe's bowel movements were consistent with overeating a local grain porridge known as garri. Either way, prosecutors didn't get the discharge they were expecting. After three weeks of drug-free stools, an unimpressed judge, Yetunde Idowu, at Lagos high court said on Friday the actor was free to go with 500,000 naira (£2,000) bail. Nigerians following the saga have been full of helpful advice on TV shows and internet chatrooms, much of it revolving around preferred laxatives. Others claim Suwe invoked the same powerful juju as the nation's most famous musician. In 1974, afrobeat musician Fela Kuti immortalised his own experience at the hands of the drug enforcement agency with a now-legendary album. Kuti was hauled into custody as police waited for evidence of a planted joint he'd swallowed to avoid detection. Instead, with the help of his juju abilities – and fellow inmates – Fela went on to produce a clean sample – and the LP Expensive Shit. Medical experts suggested Suwe's case was clear-cut. "Assuming they monitored the samples properly, it's medically impossible for him to have gone to the toilet that many times and somehow kept the drugs in him," Lagos-based gastroenterologist Shola Molemodile said. "Or if the bags broke and his behaviour somehow wasn't enough evidence, a blood or urine sample would have been enough." The case has cast an unflattering spotlight on the agency tackling drug-smuggling in a nation known as a transit hub for heroin and cocaine to Europe. "This raises the question of how many people, who are less famous, are wrongly imprisoned as I speak," said Suwe's defence counsel, Bamidele Aturu. Traffickers are increasingly using the poorly policed shorelines of west Africa as a transit point to Europe as law agencies crack down hard on drugs rings in Latin America and Asia. In 2008, 3,655kg of cocaine and about 11,000kg of heroin were seized by authorities in Nigeria. Drug gangs also target old or disabled people as recruits less likely to fit traditional profiles of drugs mules, security officers say. In a shocking case in 2002, police in New York apprehended a 12- year-old boy who had swallowed 87 condoms of cocaine before boarding a flight in Lagos. The agency has said it will offer an apology to Suwe; Aturu says his client may sue for defamation. "You don't keep a man locked up for three weeks and then pretend an apology is enough. Their officials had bett

NDLEA Arrests 236 Drug Suspects in Anambra

By Charles Onyekamuo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said that it arrested 236 suspects dealing in various drugs like cocaine, Heroin, Cannabis sativa and psychotropic substances in Anambra State in the last six months.

The state Commander of the Agency, Mr. Sule Momodu who made the disclosure in Awka during a programme to mark this year’s United Nations Day against Illicit Drug Abuse and Trafficking, said that out of this number, 214 were males, while 22 were females.

He also said that 22 of the suspects had been convicted, adding that 283.031kg of hard drugs were seized.

The drug situation in Anambra State, he said, had not only become very worrisome but quite alarming, and stressed the need for governments at all tiers, families, religious organisations community leaders, and school authorities to take up the responsibility of creating the awareness and counselling young men and women on the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking as a direct complement to the efforts of the Agency.

The Agency, he said, has been taking its enlightenment programme on the dangers of drug intake to the people and schools in the state through bill boards, quiz contests and publication.

The Agency’s interest he said was not solely on those already smoking cannabis sativa or sniffing such drugs as cocaine or heroin or drinking a mixture of local gin and marijuana known in local parlance as “Monkey tail”, because it was believed that this social category are sick and needed medical attention, but those who were yet to be co-opted into the act should be prevented.

He said research has confirmed that Cannabis sativa or marijuana contains about 400 types of chemicals which were all dangerous to health, adding that the chemicals in marijuana fight and gradually destroy vital organs like the kidney and liver and cause permanent brain damage in addicts.

The chemicals in marijuana, he further explained, lead to memory loss in the victims, and for most women who abuse these drugs, they find it difficult to conceive when they marry or at best give birth to deformed children, while the men lack the ability to produce quality sperm healthy enough to make their wives pregnant.

To the students who indulge in drug abuse, Momodu said it could permanently ruin their lives because it could lead to loss of memory and failure in their examinations.

He said that the recent discovery of a clandestine laboratory for methamphetamine production at Nnaka, Orumba North council area of the state has added a new dimension in the state’s drug problems as the state now plays the role of the three tiers of production, transition and consumption of illicit drugs.

NDLEA discovers Illicit Drug Labs in Anambra

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Amadu Giade, yesterday disclosed that the agency has discovered three clandestine laboratories used for illegal mass production of methamphetamine, an illicit drug.
Giade revealed that the illegal drug factories were detected in Akubuezem Nnewi, Anambra State, while the owner, a suspected drug kingpin, Chukwunwendu Sylvester Ikejiakwu, a.k.a. Blessed, has been arrested by NDLEA operatives.
Giade made this revelation in Lagos while briefing journalists on the recent successes of the agency. The NDLEA boss stated that Ikejiakwu is also the leader of an international drug trafficking syndicate that recruits and sponsors drug couriers to China, Malaysia, Turkey and Italy, among other countries.
He added that sufficient evidence had been gathered on the suspect to ease his prosecution.
Giade, who described the arrest as the latest outstanding operational success recorded by the agency, added that “NDLEA apprehended the suspected leader of the drug syndicate in his country home at Ozubulu after 13 months of intense surveillance.”
He expatiated: “The 37-year-old suspected drug kingpin was found to be deeply involved in unlawful exportation of illicit drugs and unlawful assembling, as well as running of methamphetamine production laboratories in the eastern part of Nigeria.
“He shuttles between his country home in Ozubulu, Nnewi and No. 2, St, James Close, Ajao Estate, Isolo where he resides in Lagos for his drug business.”
Giade said that the agency equally uncovered that the suspect is the group managing director of the Blessed Group of Companies.
“He hides under the cover of motorcycle parts business in running a drug cell that has international affiliation. His companies include Blessed Benita Global Limited, Ideal Motorcycle Company Limited and God’s Special Enterprise Limited. He specialises in recruiting and sponsoring drug couriers to China, Malaysia, Turkey and Italy. He also pays his couriers an average of $5,000 per trip,” he stated.
During a search on one of the laboratories at his Nnewi house, 2.615kg of liquid methamphetamine was found in a yellow plastic jug and 250grammes of crystallized methamphetamine concealed in a white transparent polythene bag, , the NDLEA chief disclosed.
Others are containers of iodine, acetone, hydrochloric acid, weighing scale, masks and hand gloves among others,” the NDLEA boss added.
Also recovered from him was the paraphernalia for drug concealment similar to the ones seized from drug couriers at the airports and land borders. These include an electronic weighing scale, assorted artefacts, laptop bags, motorcycle parts, air compressors, bus and truck mirrors, araldite and Atiso paint, processed brown envelopes and impulse sealer. Others are transparent packing nylon and carbon paper, tower foil paper, needles, threads, super glue and many more.
The suspect has two Nigerian international passports and one of Ghana, all bearing his photographs with different names. The NDLEA is investigating over 16 bank accounts belonging to Ikejiakwu in different banks. He was said to have a Toyota Venza with vehicle registration No AAA 18 BP, a Peugeot 406 with vehicle registration No FST 587 AS, a Q5 Audi 4-Runner with vehicle registration No EPE 546 CF and a Toyota Sienna SUV with vehicle registration No KRD 399 CG.
He was also alleged to have bought a piece of land at No. 21A, Joy Avenue, Ajao Estate, Isolo, Lagos in 2009 at the cost of N25 million and built on it in 2012 a three-story building estimated at N90 million. He also bought a property at No 2, St. James Close Ajao Estate for N17m and built a five-bedroom duplex on it at the cost of N25m.

Two Nigerians and Kenyan dancer arrested with cocaine, heroin at Lagos Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, on Tuesday arrested a female Kenyan dance at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos with banned substances concealed in school bags.

The suspect, identified as Odhiambo Samira Johnson, 42, was arrested for being in possession of four blue parcels of white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine, weighing 5.345kg.

The Kenyan is among three persons arrested on Tuesday by the anti-narcotics agency in Lagos.
The other two suspects, who are Nigerians, claimed to be automobile parts dealers based in Uganda.
They were identified as Ntoruka Emmanuel Chinedu, 41, and Ndubuisi Offormadu Innocent, 49, and were caught importing 6.250kg of cocaine and 1.490kg of heroin into the country.

The NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mitchel Ofoyeju, who confirmed the arrest and seizure yesterday, said that the total weight of the drugs seized from the trio was 13.085kg, comprising 11.595kg of cocaine and 1.490kg of heroin.

According to Ofoyeju, the NDLEA Commander at the Lagos Airport, Hamza Umar, who personally supervised the interrogation of the suspects, said that they were apprehended while trying to smuggle the illegal drugs into the country.

NDLEA preliminary investigations revealed that the Kenyan-born Johnson departed Bujumbura in Burundi en-route Nairobi, Kenya to Lagos on a Kenyan Airways flight before she was picked up by operatives of the agency during screening of passengers.

Confessing to the crime, Odhiambo said, “I am a professional dancer in Kenya. I was given the school bags in Bujumbura by a friend to deliver in Nigeria. When I got to the airport in Lagos, the customs searched my luggage and found the drugs”.

Chinedu, who hailed from Anambra State, boarded Ethiopian Airline flight from Kampala, Uganda en-route Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Lagos.
He confessed: “I have lived in Uganda for two years. I am married with two children. I came to Nigeria to attend my brother’s wedding ceremony. While I was preparing to leave Uganda, my friend gave me a bag to take to his brother who lives in Nigeria. Unfortunately, the drug was detected inside the bag”.

Innocent, who hailed from Abia State, in his confession statement, claimed that he was a victim of circumstance.
He said: “I went to a friend in Uganda to lend me some money but he gave me the option of drug trafficking. I decided to give it a trial for the very first time and it turned out this way. I was promised 3,000 dollars but I am very sad now, because I am missing my wife and four children. I have lived in Uganda for 18 years”.

Chairman/Chief Executive, Ahmadu Giade, said that the NDLEA was making significant progress in drug control.
“In spite of the new tactics adopted by drug barons, the NDLEA is still intercepting drugs. Ordinarily, Uganda and Kenya are not known to be source countries for cocaine and heroin but the suspects were unable to evade arrest due to the diligence of our officers”, he stated.
Mr. Giade added that all the cases are being investigated and urged members of the public to report suspected drug traffickers to the nearest NDLEA office.

By Nate Raymond NEW YORK (Reuters) - A Nigerian citizen pleaded guilty on Tuesday to U.S. charges of providing material support to an al Qaeda affiliate, and participating in its media and recruitment campaigns. Lawal Olaniyi Babafemi, 33, appearing before a federal judge in Brooklyn, New York, pleaded guilty to providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization. The plea came ahead of a July 14 trial date and followed a Nigerian court's decision in August to grant a U.S. request for Babafemi's extradition. Prosecutors said that, from January 2010 to August 2011, Babafemi traveled from Nigeria to Yemen twice to meet with leaders of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, known as AQAP. "The defendant traveled to Yemen to put himself at the disposal of a violent terrorist organization that has repeatedly demonstrated its determination to inflict bodily and economic harm on the United States and its citizens," Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch said in a statement. The U.S. government said Babafemi worked on AQAP's media operations, including the publication of its magazine, called "Inspire." The group's leadership, including Anwar al- Awlaki, paid Babafemi almost $9,000 to recruit English-speaking people from Nigeria, prosecutors said. Awlaki, a U.S. citizen born in New Mexico, was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Yemen in 2011. An indictment unsealed in February 2013 charged Babafemi, also known as "Ayatollah Mustapha," with four counts including conspiracy to provide material support to AQAP, and use of firearms. U.S. District Judge John Gleeson scheduled sentencing for August 27. Babafemi faces a maximum of 30 years in prison. and criminal use of firearms.
Babafemi, 33, also known as “Ayatollah Mustapha’’,

August 2011, Babafemi travelled twice from Nigeria
to Yemen to train with leaders of al Qaeda, known as

According to the media, a statement by U.S.
prosecutors said that he helped AQAP’s media
operations, including the publication of its magazine,
called “Inspire’’.
It said that the group’s leadership, including Anwar al-

Yemen in 2011.
Babafemi faces life in prison if convicted on firearms

Story highlights NEW: Michael Adebolajo is sentenced to life in prison for killing UK soldier NEW: Michael Adebowale is sentenced to at least 45 years in Lee Rigby's death The pair hit Rigby with a car, hacked him to death with meat cleaver and knives Adebolajo, a convert to Islam, indicated he believed himself a warrior for Allah Powered by Livefyre Two men convicted of killing a British soldier on a London street last year were sentenced Wednesday, one to life in prison and the other to a minimum of 45 years. In a brutal attack recorded on closed-circuit TV and by bystanders, Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale hit soldier Lee Rigby with a car then hacked him to death with a meat cleaver and knives in May 2013. The Islamic converts, through testimony or their lawyers' arguments in court, indicated they killed Rigby for Allah. Cellphone footage replayed at the trial showed Adebolajo, still clutching a cleaver in his bloody hands, ranting that the killing was "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" for British soldiers killing Muslims overseas. They were convicted of murder in December. Adebolajo will spend life in prison. Adebowale received a sentence of at least 45 years. Rigby, who had served in Afghanistan and was off duty when he was killed at the age of 25, left behind a wife and a young son. The prosecution had asked for the maximum possible sentence: life imprisonment without parole. But defense lawyers argued Wednesday for leniency. Barrister David Gottlieb told the court that the victim was chosen because he was a member of the armed forces and that no one else was hurt in the attack. Prosecutor Sue Hemming said the pair "reveled in one of the most appalling terrorist murders I have ever seen." "Not only was the attack brutal and calculated, it was also designed to advance extremist views," she said in a prepared statement. "As a solider, Fusilier Lee Rigby was targeted in a clear act of revenge, deliberately carried out in full view of members of the public for maximum impact." Family members attended court Wednesday to hear the sentences handed down. Outside the court, demonstrators from the English Defence League, a far-right group, carried signs calling for capital punishment to be restored. Britain abolished the death penalty in the 1960s. 'I am a soldier of Allah' At the trial, the prosecution said that the pair -- both born and raised in Britain by families of Christian Nigerian origin -- deliberately attacked an unarmed man from behind, using a vehicle as a weapon, and that they murdered him and mutilated his body. At trial, Adebolajo denied the charges of murder on the grounds that he had acted from religious conviction. He converted to Islam in 2002 to 2003, while at a university. Adebowale, who did not take the stand, converted to Islam more recently, in 2008 to 2009. In court, Adebolajo gave a matter-of-fact account of his actions. He declared himself a warrior for Allah and said he saw al Qaeda as his "brothers in Islam." He testified the only way he knew that Rigby was a soldier was because of his backpack. Summing up the case before the jury deliberated, Judge Nigel Sweeney reminded jurors of what happened in the 13 minutes between Rigby's body being dragged into the middle of a road near the Woolwich barracks and the arrival of police. The judge also cited details of Adebolajo's police interview and witness testimony, including that he loved al Qaeda and that he had tried to cut off Rigby's head because it was the proper method under Allah. When asked at the trial what his defense to the charge of murder was, Adebolajo said: "I am a soldier. I am a soldier of Allah." May: 'Sickening and barbaric' Though Adebowale did not give evidence at the trial, his lawyer, Abbas Lakha, echoed Adebolajo's testimony regarding their intent. The judge told the jury that the defense's argument -- that Rigby's killing was an act of war or of retaliation -- did not apply. Adebolajo and Adebowale were found not guilty of attempted murder of a police officer in the case. The prosecution had argued that when they ran toward the police vehicle that responded after Rigby's murder -- with Adebolajo holding a knife and Adebowale a gun -- they intended to kill an officer. However, the defense argued that the two men wanted to be killed by police. The gun was not loaded. At the time of the verdict, Home Secretary Theresa May said the "sickening and barbaric murder" of Rigby had "united the entire nation in condemnation." "Violence and extremism of any kind have absolutely no place in our society and cannot be justified," she said.
