PRESIDENT BUHARI: PLEASE HURRY TO U.S.A.
Before Boko Haram Captures Defence HQ, Maiduguri
-Attorney Patryk Utulu**

I am eagerly looking forward to the July 2015 meeting between President Buhari and President Obama in Washington, DC. Not too long ago, Boko Haram killed Nigerians by the dozens...monthly. Now the terrorists are averaging nearly 100 kills per week. Dying loudly in the hands of terrorists has become the silent new normal in Nigeria. Few would dispute that Boko Haram is now stronger than it has ever been or that our security agencies seem so overwhelmed that they do little beyond showing up to pick up the corpses of those bombed off of Planet Earth.

HERE'S NIGERIA'S SORRY STATISTICS: June 25-30, 2015, our South African mercenaries (um, OK, military advisers) quietly departed because they were NOT paid in April, May and June-in-advance, as agreed. Cameroun, Chad and Niger Republic have secured their territories by chasing Boko Haram completely into Nigeria. The military of the three nations have refused to fight inside Nigeria because the Nigerian Government which insisted on being recognized as "the leader" of the anti-Boko Haram Military Coalition won't (or cannot) pay for weapons and logistics these 3 nations asked for to help Nigeria INSIDE Nigeria.

Then, the Nigerian Military Command HQ moved to Maiduguri but that was just it. Rather than give us a sharper edge the arrival of the military chiefs has turned the Nigerian military into a snake with two heads: so much visible movement leading in no purposeful direction. On arrival in Maiduguri the service chiefs displaced the Joint Task Force's command and control but none of the military service chief is willing to step forward to personally assume command. [Yes, our military chiefs are all politicians and none of them want to be responsible for how the fight turns out]. Sources say that instead of fighting Boko Haram the military chiefs regularly return to Abuja-FCT to lobby hard to retain their positions in the shuffle that is coming. Some remain in Abuja for weeks AFTER attending Security meetings. So, Boko Haram has re-colonized Sambisa Forest from where they attack Maiduguri with almost weekly impunity slaughtering hundreds.

ANOTHER TERRORIST GROUP FORMING IN KEBBI STATE

YANLABAIKI, a more extreme terrorist group has been organizing openly in Kebbi State. Nigerians have NOT been told and the religious group has yet be confronted now that its membership is still in the low hundreds. Soon the Kebbi-based terrorists will attack and unleash its own brand of religious mayhem on Nigerians. Thereafter chronic denialist-Nigerians will rage and foam in the mouth to intimidate other Nigerians into a fabricated narrative that we did not know HOW/WHY/WHEN or WHERE the new terrorist group started from. Again, let is be on record that Yanlabaiki terrorist group is forming in Kebbi State.

What has become obvious is that Nigeria cannot pay for military equipment. We could not pay the mercenaries that were helping our soldiers. Nigeria cannot pay for the "leadership title" of Cameroun-Chad-Niger-Nigeria Military Coalition that we insisted upon. WHY CAN'T WE PAY? BECAUSE EVERY PENNY THAT COMES INTO THE NIGERIAN TREASURY IS USED TO PAY THE OBSCENELY HUGE SALARIES AND EVER-EXPANDING ALLOWANCES OF NASS LEGISLATORS.

Therefore, unless the United States IN-DEED supports Nigeria immediately and commits to long-term military assistance, our war against Boko Haram will remain stalemated as we no longer do much more than picking up broken bones, cleaning up blood and hurriedly burying Muslim and non-Muslim victims within 24 hours of being blown up. Oftentimes, without even bothering to look for their next of kin.

However, it is NOT too late to regain control and try to win this war...

But to win, Buhari must hurry to USA and he must come with a very short list of requests. America is financially stretched and, in truth, besides South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa is NOT of particularly strategic consideration for the United States Congress. In America it is Congress, NOT the President that determines where the money comes from. So for expediency President Buhari MUST keep his "help-me" list really short and he must pointedly ask Mr. Obama for clear and specific commitments, written or publicly announced.

As the date of the trip nears I'll write another article to suggest to President Buhari what his agenda should be and what is or isn't worth asking the United States for.

People implore critics to give Buhari time, that it is too early to criticise the government, as if Boko Haram has given respite to the killings. Or are the casualties not worth our lamentations that force us to criticise the govt? Some dudes need their heads checked!

This man has stopped nairalanding coming to a full year now. I guess he was a paid agent of the former administration spreading propaganda. It's a shame, I enjoyed reading his writeups.
