Lagos- Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Southwest have vowed not to recognise the emergence of Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara until the crisis revolving around the National Assembly contest is sufficiently resolved by the party.

Chairman of the Ekiti State chapter of the party, Chief Jide Awe disclosed this yesterday as his counterpart in Oyo State, Chief Akin Oke insisted that the two presiding officers of the National Assembly should apologise to the party to avoid compounding their problems.

The duo spoke in the wake of assertions that the Southwest caucus of the party may have decided to boycott activities of the party upon the crisis provoked by the failure of Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila to win the leadership contest and the subsequent resistance to his emergence as Majority Leader of the House.

Speaking on the development, Awe said: “I was at the NEC meeting but I did not go and salute the Senate President and the Speaker. This is because there are issues on ground that have not been resolved by the leadership of the party. This crisis has to be resolved. We are a third party to this crisis and a third party should not contribute to an existing problem, rather he should look for solutions.”

Awe noted that the chairmen of the party from the region unanimously resolved not to congratulate Senator Saraki and Speaker Dogara.

His words: “All the Southwest chairmen have decided to allow the party solve the problems with the National Assembly before we start congratulating the winners.

When probed to know if the chairmen from the zone were acting the script of a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, he said, “that is what they will think but they are wrong. People do not know the workings of the APC. For Asiwaju (Tinubu) not to be at the NEC meeting means that he is not a member.

Also speaking on the issue, chairman of the party in Oyo state, Chief Oke said the state chairmen of the party believe very strongly that party supremacy should be respected.

He also maintained that the state chairmen of the party visited the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki to ensure that he respects the position of the party.

Will their recognition change anything? Will it change their status as senate president and speaker respectively, or will it reduce their salary... They don't want to recognize him bt PMB has recognize them...they should hold their recognition

Jide Awe, Ekiti State APC chairman should be more concerned over his alleged involvement in the murder case hanging on his neck and surrender for trial.

I agree with you bro, they should swallow their pride for the sake of the masses, but don't you think that saraki and dogara should do that as well ,they should swallow their pride and beg the party since they went against their party's plan whislt achieving their aim, they should do the needful for the sake of the party as well.

Coming from a man wanted for MURDER speaks volumes.

That said, I think APC and it's leadership are the Architects of their own woes. The party failing to zone positions left a vacuum and a free for all struggle. That they didn't envisage this scenario playing out smacks of cluelessness.

The president was very Apt when he stated that he was not going to intervene in who emerges as leader(s) of NASS, and promised to work with whoever emerges..This he exhibited by congratulating Saraki and Dogara.

It is obvious that the party is mounting pressure on the president to rescind his earlier decision and intervene in the NASS imbroglio. Does this not amount to 'blowing hot and cold at the same time?

Are these South west party leaders members of Nass? Why should they reject leaders legitimately elected by senators of the Federal Republic? It is obvious they are implementing a sectional and parochial agenda.

Whatever happens in the days ahead, APC and its leadership should hold themselves responsible for their wanton greed, imposition and poor grasp of intricacies inherent in National Politics.

APC is on a precipice

In as much as I don't like what Bukola did, these chairmen should take things easy.
Bukola is now a bull in Chinese shop, you don't just chase it up and down. Yes, you may clamp it down eventually, but when counting your loss you realize it doesn't worth the chase.

If you're unfortunate to see mosquito on your balls/eggs, you don't kill it by slap.

If they like it or not, the two men have been elected and have since resumed work without any of their input. Nigeria has moved on, so they should catch up with the present reality.
