Award winning Nigerian comedian, Bright Okpocha popular known as Basketmouth is currently flying the country’s flag high. Few hours ago, the Mayor of the City of Houston, Texas, Ms. Annise Danette Parker, proclaimed July 17 as the official ‘Basketmouth Day’ in Houston.

The declaration was made in recognition of Basketmouth’s immense contribution towards integrating the Nigerian American Community through his art for the past 6 years in Houston. As part of the celebrations, a congressional recognition ceremony will hold on July 18, 2015, the same day as Basketmouth’s ‘One Man Stand’ comedy concert entitled ‘Basketmouth Uncensored’.

The event is scheduled to hold at the Ayya Centre, Houston, Texas, USA. This honour puts Basketmouth as the first Nigerian to have a day officially named after him in the history of the United States. Ms. Annise Danette Parker, who conferred the honour on Basketmouth is an American politician who has been elected Houston Mayor three times, serving since January 2, 2010. She also served as an at-large member of the Houston City Council from 1998 to 2003 and city controller from 2004 to 2010. Parker is Houston’s second female mayor (after Kathy Whitmire), and one of the first openly gay mayors of a major U.S. City. See the proclamation document below.
