A QUESTION LEFT UNANSWERED-ENGINEERING STUDENT POST TO TEACH DURING THE ONE YEAR NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE CORPS
Engineering is beyond a theoretical aspect, is an act of skilled managing and practical application of knowledge of pure science’s in proffering solution to mankind problems such as the construction of bridges, refineries, buildings, mines etc. Like medicine, engineering is a prestigious vocation in developing countries such as Nigeria. As young youth full of vitality and strength, we are in the best position to move this great country forward with our own contributions but how can this be possible when we are posted to remote villages to go and teach instead of being in the field applying our theoretical orientations on practical problems. Take for example, A medical doctors being post to go and teach, what exactly will that add to his course of study in school, will he go there to administers drugs or to sterilized the school, as long as this people are not posted to school due to their course of study in higher institution likewise the engineering student must be given a platform to gain more and not a platform to depreciate. Engineering is a practical course and it must be seen as such by the coordinator of NYSC. A period of one year with the right platform and opportunity will propel an advancement to the corper, the organization wherein he will serve and also to the country as a whole . As the new government is about to start the commencement of refining our petroleum and its product here in Nigeria, we need youth especially engineers in the NYSC scheme to be given an opportunity like this, because I believe a country that do not show its youth the way will definitely go into extinction. Engineers must be given the same privilege given to our fellows who are doctors.
Many questions has being left unanswered by the coordinators of NYSC or should I say that it is our government system that has proven not to monitor the scheme, according to an article written in the This Day newspaper dated 22 july 2013 by Damilola Oyedele says accordingly that in order to ensure that corps members obtain work experience relevant to their academic qualifications, the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) would from the next batch of posting rescind its decision to send corps member to serve in schools only. This has been a long two years now and nothing has being done so far, It can be seen as a proposal left unattended to, for the past two years nothing has being done on it, so tell me is it that we are not counted worthy or something is entirely wrong with the system.
Let’s look into this following questions
What lies the future of engineering youth, when they have being deprived and denied the opportunity to see the beauty of engineering works.
Why is the engineering students deprived of serving in engineering sectors.
How can a sound and knowledgeable engineers be produce in a country that lacks technological advancement
Is there any technology improvement in Nigeria even with many talented graduates of engineers?
As a nation, individually, and collectively, we must stand for what is right. Our government must stand for truth and justice, Engineering students must not be left unattended to, or asked to go and teach in rural areas, We must be given the privilege to practice our profession. Private and public sectors dealing with anything engineering must create or provide space and opportunity for engineering students to learn under them so as to add to our experience and after the service year, we might be able to stand for something and also contribute our own quota in improving our fatherland. Of what use will it be after service year applying for jobs and being asked to tender a curriculum vitae(CV) of five years working experience when one can actually acquire better skills during the cause of one year in service.
We are calling our government to action, youth are the strength of a nation and we have potentials imbedded in us but we need the right platform especially in the NYSC Scheme to enhance and explore opportunities. Engineering students must not be downgraded, we must be accord our due respect as par posting to our primary assignment in the cause of serving our nation, we need this platform dearly to create that change we need in our nation. Not every time we should depend on the outside world, we all can do it right here in Nigeria. Give Engineering student corper a chance to build this nation during the NYSC and see how this will positively affect the nation after the scheme.
Engineering is fundamental and must be practice, Long Live Nigeria, Long live NYSC, Long live Engineering .

Nice post, but you should also note that the scheme is for service and so corps members are posted to areas of need.
