Don’t Trivialise Insurgency, Ekweremadu Warns by Nobody: 5:11pm On Jul 11, 2015
Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has
called on the international community to
urgently assist Nigeria to nip insurgency that
has been ravaging parts of the North in the
bud, calling on Nigerians not to politicize the
matter.
In a statement by his media aide Uche
Anichukwu, Ekweremadu dismissed media
reports which quoted him as saying the Boko
Haram insurgency has worsened under
President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The Deputy President of the Senate was
reported by two national dailies as stating that
the President Muhammadu Buhari
administration has worsened insurgency.
Whereas Senator Ekweremadu expressed
concerns over the resurgence of Boko Haram
attacks in parts of the country, at no time did
he try to blame it on the present
administration.
“It is instead on record that he not only
commended the efforts of the present
administration, especially in building
international support and synergy to tackle the
monstrous group, but he also called for greater
inter-party, inter-governmental and
international collaboration to address the
problem,” he said.
The statement added that as a lawmaker,
Ekweremadu would not shy away from
presenting constructive criticism where and
when appropriate, but that “to twist an
otherwise harmless concern expressed by him
to suit a narrow and inordinate agenda is a
most callous disrespect to the thousands of
souls who have perished in the hands of
terrorists in the country.
