Moves aimed at ending the seven-week-old industrial action embarked upon by civil servants in Osun State over non-payment of their salaries failed to pay off over the weekend as meeting between the labour and government delegates ended in a stalemate.
Tribune Online gathered that the workers insisted that the only thing that could compel them to call off the strike is the payment of at least two months out of their seven months salaries.
Sources at the meeting held between the Chief of Staff to the governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and the labour leaders under the leadership of Comrade Jacob Adekomi, who is the chairman of the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at the weekend in Osogbo, the state capital, informed Tribune Online that the government prevailed on the workers to call off the strike while the labour laeders reportedly insisted that 'no alert, no resumption.'
According to one of the sources at the meeting, "we could safely aver that the parley was deadlocked as no agreement could be reached between the labour and the government. The leadership of the union stood their ground that bank alert of salaries payment on their handsets of workers would determine when the strike would be called off."
He further hinted that they told the government representative that if the workers received payment alert on their hansets on Monday, they would call the strike off and workers would resume on Tuesday and if otherwise, the strike continues.
"Atleast, if two months could be paid by the government out of the accumulated seven months salaries owed, the strike will be called off for a while while pressure will be mounted to receive the remaining five months in no distant time,"the source added.

Yes, I support the move, but I hope the workers will be realistic in their demand, some things are just undo-able

Aregberascal has been budgeting and spending five times the State's gross revenue for the past 3yrs with annual budgets averaging above 200 bn annually. This deficit spending is based mainly on bank loans with Osun state gross revenue averaging just 40bn.

Why did Aregbe not plant cocoa with all the money he has borrowed so far which is over 500bn?

You sychophant

The bail out was to help pay the workers salaries and not for Aregberascal to waste on any more hair brained project.

What was the bail out for?

Answer that first.

This is how he diverted monies meant for salaries that he captured in his budget for useless projects that bennefit only him and Tinubu and you expect the workers to be happy?

Have you heard of any contractor complain that they are being owed by Osun?

This is an example of what happens when people keep calling for state creation without thinking through on how the institution are going to be financed.

They need to streamline the government or merge bankrupt states.

Perhaps they are not complaining because they were not paid lump sum, their work is valued and paid, step by step and FYI some contractors who rushed projects with their money are being owed, some are bankrupt

Get your facts straight

But Osun defender reported on Saturday that the strike has been called of by the labour union!

Osun defender indeed.

Labour leaders in Osun State have agreed to call off the six weeks’ strike they embarked upon over six month’s unpaid salaries.

Sources close to the parley held today at the Oke-Fia Government House in Osogbo revealed that the labour movement decided to put off the strike after the state government has met substantial part of their demands.

At the time of filling this report, the labour leaders led by Comrade Babatunde Jacob Adekomi were signing the agreement with the government on modalities of payment of the arrears of the salaries.

Details shortly……….

And why should they be happy if the Governor is not willing to pay their owed salaries?

Wasn't that what the bailout was for?

What are you saying op? Out of seven months they demand for 2 months instant payment and you are calling it unreasonable demand? What is the bailout for? To plant cocoa trees? You sycophants and callous one, I pray government or your employer will owe you to the tune of seven months and you will experience the life of OSUN workers. I guess you are one of the sponsored E-rats. Like father like son.

The contractors or workers?

Not saying they should he happy

Saying they should be realistic

Bailout is not full allocation

Manage what you have and hope things get better

Can you not see the hypocrisy in your post?

Aregbe was the one that mismanaged the state's resources to the point that he can't pay workers.

Why should the workers manage and Aregbe continue to divert the money from the bailout to another silly venture?

Wasn't the bailout strictly to pay owed wage?

Socialism for Aregbe but pure capitalism for osun workers.

This is progressive thinking I guess.

You are not getting my point

Ask yourself and research on this questions

How much is Osun's allocation per month?

How much for 8 months

How much did Osun receive as bailout?

Ask yourself why Osun state allocations are low.

Isn't this because deductions are made from source to service bank loans?

Who took out a bank loan for Osun? Who managed the bank loan?

Who refused to pay salaries captured in the state recurrent list?

The fact remains that the bailout was meant specifically to assist the states owing their workers .

Aregbe should use every dime he got from the bailout to pay osun workers because those are the intended beneficiaries of the bailout.

So they should continue to compound the woes of the workers? Are you in OSUN state, or you are just following OSUN on media? Come over and see the realities on ground.

The guy has a point, he's not asking the bailout fund be used for Coco, but with the previous amount collected, he should have done that.

Your brothers in the Lord said allocation is low/reduced because of crude oil price crash. are you saying that's not true?

Nobody refused being unable is not the same as refusal

If indeed banks cut Osun's allocation then what makes you think they did not cut bailout funds from FG?

Finally, is the bailout fund equal to the total worker's salaries and allocation for 8 months ?
