A South-East political group, Igbo Political
Forum (IPF), has called on the All Progressives
Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to
accommodate people from the zone in its
administration, to give all geo-political zones a
sense of belonging.
Spokesperson of the group and former aspirant
for the office of national publicity secretary of
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chyna
Iwuanyanwu, cautioned that any conspiracy to
exclude Ndigbo or any section of the country
under the evolving political dispensation in the
country, would amount to a violation of the
spirit and Letters of the Nigerian constitution
and the principle of federal character.
Speaking on the crisis over the choice of
principal officers of the National Assembly, the
national secretary of IPF, noted that the forum
had been monitoring the unfolding scenario
and cautioned that the ruling party must
demonstrate sensitivity to the complex realities
of the nation.
He further stated that “Ndigbo have no regrets
and no apologies whatsoever for the choice we
made collectively or individually during the
2015 elections in exercise of our fundamental
rights as citizens of this country.”
The spokesman of the IPF warned that any
attempt to ‘punish’ Ndigbo or to deny them
their rights and privileges would be contested.
He recalled: “In 1999, when majority of the
Nigerians voted for PDP, the South-West voted
for Alliance for Democracy (AD). This was in
spite that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was the
candidate of choice. In the same electiAon, the
North voted predominantly for All Nigeria
Peoples Party (ANPP).
“Obansanjo’s administration did not
discriminate or ‘punish’ the South-West or the
core North, rather he brought them into the
mainstream.”
He stated that there would be no justification
whatsoever for President Buhari to run a
government to the exclusion of Ndigbo or any
other ethnic group for that matter.
Iwuanyanwu expressed deep concern that all
the appointments so far made by the Federal
Government, including the leadership of the
National Assembly, had been one sided.
