Pls Nairalanders i need help on updating my xbox 360 console

well mine was stolen but recently i updated a friend's.

the tools used are (1)MTN 3G E220 Modem, (2)Ethernet cable,  (3) desktop PC

you can use whatever internet connection you have as long as the IP of your external gateway is not 192.168.0.1

important: disable all firewalls on your PC. if your internet comes in via your ethernet LAN then you're out of luck.

the steps are:

1. give your PC ethernet connection a manual router IP (ie 192.168.0.1), configure the subnet with the default of 255.255.255.0. leave Gateway and DNS blank.

2. share your internet connection (if on windows xp select your ethernet as the share point)

3. connect the ethernet cable to your Xbox360

4. in the system settings blade of your xbox, got to Network settings and set the machine IP manually as 192.168.0.1[b]xx[/b] ([b]x [/b]can be any number from 0 to 9; permissible range is 100 to 199. try 192.168.101)

5. subnet mask for this IP range by default is 255.255.255.0

6. gateway/router is your PC's IP, ie 192.168.0.1

7. DNS is same as above, 192.168.0.1

test the connection. if it works, then go to the Xbox Live blade and you'll be notified of the update.
