Which Type Of System Should I Buy? by Nobody: 8:55pm On Jul 16, 2015
Good evening Nairalanders,

I'm an 100Level computer science and engineering student that will soon be in 200level,as soon as we resume for 200Level I plan to get a system and I already have 95k on ground for it.

My problem is I need specifications of system that can be use very well for programming and that will last long and that also go for not more than 90k cos I will have to get modem and flash drive too.Can anyone here please help with that? The type of the system can be stated and I will check up its specification online or if you can help with the specification too,I don't mind.

Thanks in advance.

Get a dell, lenovo , or HP laptop with core i3 processor, 4gb ram and 500gb HDD. Should be between 80-85 k. Depending on your location, you can even get sellers here on NL.

I would advise against an i3, best to get an i7 with @ least 8 - 16gb ram, hdd or ssd can be expanded with an external drive, 4600 or 5500 Intergrated HD graphics.
With the above specifications, all other required components would be compelling.

Since I studied the same field you did in college I recommend that you get a Mobile Workstation because as a Computer Scientist/Electrical Engineer/Computer Engineer you never know what path you would take.

I recommend getting a

Lenovo Thinkpad W/T series
HP Zbook 14 or 15
Dell Precision M3800

The stats should be as follows:

Ram: 8 - 16gb ddr3-l (if you are going to run VMs, I recommend at least 16gb of RAM)
Processor: core-i7 mq or hq processor (go no less than a core i5)

LOL bros you could have snipping tooled that screenshot. In any case, I can get that chip if I ant but I think the 4710MQ is fast enough. I think we could both get up to 4940MX chip.

Which model of computer do you have?

Don't need to snipe it. Would not state what I don't own.
It's a Dell Precision M2800. I feel presently it's future - Proof, no updates required for now.
NB: Maybe when I need to pilot a fighter jet, I would consider upgrading !!!

Loll too funny bro. I can also snap a picture like here, but it looks grainy and gives Mac users the impression that Windows can't take good screenshots

It sure looks grainy. I simply use my phones camera (flash off), and bright background lighting, if I need screenshots.
I run Win 7, but have reserved Win 10.

I hope Win 10 would be a refined upgrade and combo of Win 7 and Win 8.
I do not like Win 8 @ all.

I've watched a lot of video reviews in regards to Windows 10 and it looks very promising.

Here is how the release build will look like:
