After criticizing and promising to remove the unconstitutional office of the First lady, the Muhammadu Buhari led government has changed the Office of the First Lady to Office of the Wife of the President using the national seal and organizing programs under such office.

It will be recalled that the president during the campaign promised to discard office of the first lady as it was unconstitutional and used by spouse of president to interfere in government affairs, where government `officials use funds from government coffers to fund its activities.

Ironically, about two months after its inauguration, the wife of the President is not only acting like the office of the defunct First lady but now has letterhead and seal. These further raise questions on the much-touted integrity of the new government.

The President during campaign also promised to publicly declare his asset but on entering office, declared his asset only to code of conduct bureau (CCB), which is a constitutional requirement. All efforts to get the details of the asset declaration from CCB has proved abortive.

However sources within the presidency maintained that the asset would be made public when it has been verified by CCB. Late President Umaru Musa Yaradua, the only Nigerian president to have declared his asset publicly gave details of his asset declaration to the public the same day he submitted to the CCB.

There was never the office of the first lady. You guys chose to call her first lady. This woman stated clearly from the outset that if the constitution doesn't recognize the office, then there won't be anything as such. And truly, there is nafin as such.
