Forty (40) students from Cameroon are about to be expelled from the Bar Part 1 programme of the Nigerian Law School, Abuja after 4 weeks since resumption. This became the case when a Cameroonian student wrote a letter addressed to the Council of Legal Education in poor English Language. The school in turn singled-out students from the Yaounde University in Cameroon which is in the French-speaking part of the country. This has caused serious heartbreak to the students who believe they are being made to pay for the apathy of one student. Furthermore, they recount that they have paid about N1.5Million in tuition which is triple what Nigerian students pay and have resumed classes and spent a lot from travelling from Cameroon to expenses on settling down in Nigeria in the past 4 weeks. Also, the Nigerian Law School reviewed their results, deemed them fit to study and offered them admission without identifying any fault. Many expected that in such situation that the Nigerian Law School would simply learn from the occurrence and in the future beef-up their application process for foreigners or at best administer a fresh English Language test to the students rather than expelling the entire sect. Witnesses have it that the Cameroonians seem psychologically affected as many of them are seen in small groups around the campus lamenting their plight. They are hereby seeking public assistance from well-meaning Nigerians who can help their unfortunate circumstance.

This is ridiculous. How can they expel students because of a letter written in bad English by one student.

This news better be false.

They are bi-lingual. Some specialise in English common law and others in French common law so its the English specialists that come to Nigeria. They recognise Nigeria's law school as the best in Africa and they are also not developed enough yet to run their own law school. That's why.

Nigeria should have tested them for eligibility. It's bad to send them away now just like that, unless if they must be refunded their tuition. A mental revolution is vital here.

Nigerians and their upside down thinking. They have already been admitted. Let them either pass or fail on their own efforts. But future applicants should be subjected to an English language test.

That's unfair to the students. You cant expel after you have already admitted based on bad English

err, what's false about the story. Maybe you can do your research, you are free. Bar Part 1 is for students who studied law abroad only and it takes place only in the Abuja campus, the headquarters, it is a brief conversion course. Then they join the rest of the Nigerian students in the bar part 2..
