At about 10:15 am yesterday, the 19th of
July, two 2nd year philosophy students
of the University of Benin, Benin City,
Edo State, were knocked down by an
army vehicle written 'Thunder Storm
Patrol 28'.
The two girls were crossing the road
leading to school while this happened,
but after the accident one girl was found
on the ground while the other, in the
bush nearby.
They were both on their way to church,
but one of them, Halim Rita Awele, was
pronounced dead later on, after they
were immediately rushed to the
hospital. The other student who has
undergone CT scan in the hospital is said
to be okay, and hopefully she will be
better.
Most people look at death as we look at
a cat or a dog that found another owner.
We don't know about them so we do not
celebrate their life, and mourn their
death. The sorrow the family, friends, or
close ones would feel, we do not
consider and take a moment of silence to
pray for the unrest with a sorrowful
heart, to rest in peace.
She was someone's daughter, someone's
sister, someone's friend, someone's
unfound love and wife to be, someone's
mother who lost her life while going to
church on a Sunday morning... someone
who's life wasn't complete.
We wake up everyday to live again, and
we die to also live.. but not on earth.
May her sweet soul rest in Peace, and
may the other student be strong enough
to recover fully.. Amen!
