As at today nairaland has become a social forum that a great number of Nigerian youths, both at home and in diaspora, as well as foreigners for update information on Nigeria and happenings around the country. It is probably the number 1 social forum in the country.

It is very disheartening at the rate at which some irresponsible, unfounded and sensitive news get to front page without verifying the authenticity of such information. A classical example is the report of the death of Obuah, the ex-CSO of GEJ. Another is the fake bombing of Calabar by Nigerian Army.

Seun, you need to rein-in your MODs. Some information are quite sensitive and should not be treated with levity without proper verification of the story. Can you imagine one of the children of Mr. Obuah reading of his father's death on Nairaland?

The MODs are more or less like Editors of the print and air media. The onus lies on them to be wary of mere beer parlour gists and rumours being peddled as news and such should never make the front page. Most of the useless OPs always make references to dubious websites and blogs that they created overnight. They should therefore develop the acumen to separate the wheat from the chaffs.

Enough is enough.
