When selecting a project topic, there are things you must consider. Some students get stranded with their bachelor’s degree and master’s degree project because their topic is not researchable. Most times, people tend to select research project topic because the topic looks interesting or because someone else have written on it. Rewriting someone project is plagiarism and criminal, it is a bridge of copyright and does not contribute to academic development.

Note, however that you can research on a similar project probably to disprove the previous findings, re-establish the findings or further add to the literature. The first and key rule is ‘ensure that the project is researchable’. By researchable, are there relevant literatures on the topic? Put togather, there should be no less than 20 literatures on that topic, empirical, theoretical and conceptual literature on the topic. One way to do this is to conduct a literal survey. Search through the internet, search through libraries and preview journals to see if there are available literature. When the literature is available, then know that it is a researchable topic.

Following this rule will prevent project cancellation and situation of being stranded after you have started the project. Where your supervisor score you from is by the topic you select, as soon as the first topic sends a wrong signal as not being researchable, your supervisor keeps an eye on you and that keen interest might affect your research morale.
