SharaReporters has learned that President Muhammadu Buhari’s meeting on Monday with the United States Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, focused on a strategy to prosecute Nigeria’s immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, for her role in several billion dollar corrupt deals in the oil industry. Mr. Buhari’s meeting also touched on fighting terrorism as well as strategies for identifying and purging corrupt judges from the Nigerian judicial system.

High on the agenda was to discuss American support for a vast investigation of racketeering schemes spearheaded by Ms. Alison-Madueke and several of her cohorts in the oil sector who conspired to deprive the Nigerian treasury of billions of dollars that went to private interests.

A source with authoritative information on the meeting told SaharaReporters that the US Justice Department provided President Buhari with a dossier listing numerous participants in the theft of several billions of dollars. US authorities also pledged to offer further documents on condition that Nigerian prosecutors demonstrate a focused and determined effort to pursue ethical and serious prosecution.

Our source revealed that the documents submitted and promised by the US disclose how Mrs. Alison-Madueke and her cohorts used several offshore accounts to move money between Switzerland and Germany.

According to our source, the name of Kola Aluko featured prominently in the discussion and documents. Mr. Aluko, a player in the oil sector who was picked by Ms. Alison-Madueke as a front for some of her more egregious deals, emerged in the last five years from relative obscurity to become one of Africa’s richest people.

Mr. Aluko, who fell out with the former Petroleum Minister after he reportedly started dating former superstar model Naomi Campbell, has acquired a stunningly expensive yacht, a retinue of Rolls Royce cars, other expensive cars well as multi-million homes and apartments in such locations as London, New York, and Dubai.

Our source explained that US law enforcement agents, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), spent more than two years on the investigation that uncovered a pattern of obscene theft of billions of dollars of Nigeria’s oil revenues. An FBI field officer in Abuja reportedly played a key role in the investigation of Ms. Alison-Madueke and her self-chosen collaborators, including Mr. Aluko.

Our source disclosed that the US Justice Department officials at the meeting indicated that they would be reluctant to sustain their collaboration with Nigerian authorities unless the Buhari administration set some process in place to identify and fire corrupt judges from the Nigerian judiciary.

A confidante of Mr. Buhari told SaharaReporters that, after leaving the meeting with the US Attorney General, at the Blair House guest house of Mr. Buhari, the Nigerian president vowed that he would take decisive steps to rid Nigeria of corrupt judges to ensure the success of his anti-corruption agenda.

Last week, during his US visit, Mr. Buhari publicly accused unnamed former ministers of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration of stealing up to one million barrels of crude oil per day from the Nigerian people. In official speeches and media interviews, the Nigerian president also restated his determination to go after corrupt officials, regardless of their political affiliation.

The last time I heard from Diezani Alison Madueke in 2015, she claimed in her public statement that she was going no where as there is no indictment against her. This is the same person who was indicted by the Senate as far back as 2008 over the sudden payments of more than N30b between the 20th and 31st of December 2007 when she was still the Minister of Transport. That is not her court order which she hurriedly obtained (from an unpatriotic judge) to permanently stop the national assembly from probing her expense of N10b on private jet rental. The staff of the private jet company then suddenly disappeared from Nigeria on the orders of Madam big-eyed thief who repeatedly insulted Nigerians for raising genuine questions about her role as the pivot of corruption since 2007.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Diezani Madueke must explain to Nigerians how they continued to pay out invoices of more than N2 trillion in two years for a fuel subsidy programme that had a budget benchmark of N245b per annum. Why did they keep silent when a bill of N240b per year rose to N300b, N350b, N400b, and N500b? How and why did they continue to pay more than double of the budget without any supplementary appropriation bill until the bill grew into N2 trillion? How does a Minister of petroleum or a minister of finance pay out more than N50b in excess of budgetary benchmarks without raising an alarm? How does that happen?

These people have so much to explain. The NASS would have helped to investigate them. But the NASS is also now under the firm grip of a horrendously corrupt leadership, which makes Buhari's efforts difficult. This is why Saraki must go. If Buhari wants to fight corruption effectively, he cannot do so with a National Assembly led by a horrifically corrupt Senator who has serious vested interests in corruption.

Some of these corrupt judges are the overlooked weak links in the corruption fight.They are as corruptly rich as some politicians.
Some of them have been known to give ridiculously unheard of judgements that defies all common sense.
If as many corrupt ones as possible can be rooted out with a reinvigorated EFCC,the anti corruption fight will enter into another gear and only then would the corrupt really start getting scared.

The way SR is just throwing around figures in Billions, like say na kobo-kobo so.. I hope they are not exaggerating coz those figures are staggering!

These are indeed staggering allegations against the former petroleum minister. I hope she's got a good lawyer. She'll need one.
