Ekele Franklin, a 15-year-old boy from Imo, who emerged the overall best candidate in the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME), conducted between April 11 and April 15 has attributed his feat to regular participation in competitions. Ekene who scored 347 said his target was to make a score of 370 out of a possible 400. The young chap, an SS3 pupil of Meiran Community Secondary School, Meiran, Lagos added that he was shocked to be announced the candidate with the highest score in the examination. Nigerian musician, Omoniyi Raphael aka Zlatan, has been freed while Afeez Fashola aka Naira Marley is still being detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo state, says the state could diversify its economy by tapping into the marijuana market. In a tweet on Monday, Akeredolu explained that with an estimated value of $145 billion in 2025, the state would be shortchanging itself if it ignores the marijuana business. “We all know that Ondo State is the hot bed of cannabis cultivation in Nigeria,” he wrote. “We know how to grow it and it thrives well in the Sunshine State. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the election for all positions at the polling unit of the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo. The PDP won in the two voting points of the Polling Unit 033. For the presidential election, the PDP polled 425 votes while the APC had 229. For the senatorial election, the PDP had 414 votes while the APC had 261. For the House of Representatives election, the PDP had 268 while the APC had 190 votes. Popular musician-turned politician, Olubankole Wellington, (popularly known as Banky W) also performed impressively at the polling unit, polling a total of 212 votes in the House of Representatives election. The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, has given details of the “logistics and operational problems” he earlier said prompted the rescheduling of the 2019 general elections billed to start Saturday. The commission announced the shocking decision just hours before the opening of polls after repeatedly assuring Nigerians and international observers it was ready for the crucial elections. It blamed logistics problems but did not give details at first.
