The Federal Government has released a list of Nigerians who died of coronavirus abroad since the outbreak started some four months ago, The PUNCH reports.

Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, made this known on Thursday evening via a video containing the names, pictures and countries of residence of the departed compatriots.

In the video posted on her verified Twitter handle, 13 Nigerians abroad have, so far, died of the novel virus.

The policeman raised his bullhorn to shout instructions, backed up by a group of soldiers piling out of an armored personnel carrier.

"Go home. Get your stuff and go," he yelled. It was an impossible instruction to a group of homeless people stirring from under their cardboard boxes and sleeping bags.

In affluent suburbs, people woke up to the inconvenient reality of three weeks isolated in their homes. Only essential movement is allowed and parks are closed. But many have gardens for their children to play in.

In informal settlements and city centers across the country, however, South Africans have limited choices to keep themselves safe from the virus.

Across this continent, social distancing is a refuge for the privileged and ingrained inequality is the reality everywhere. In Lagos, Nigeria -- where the informal economy is the lifeblood and lifeline for millions -- the markets are now shuttered. In Kenya, police have enforced a curfew with batons and teargas.

But sprawling townships and many thousands of homeless are an extraordinary challenge for his government during this pandemic.

On Monday, day four of the lockdown, at least 1,000 homeless men were rounded up and crammed into a rusted soccer stadium in Pretoria, the nation's capital.

A long line of them squat on the concrete floor. The line snaked out of the grounds and onto the street where they set up a makeshift methadone clinic.

"The goal here is to keep Covid out of this community," says Sasha Lalla, a leader at COSUP, a city-supported substance abuse program. He worries that the thousands of homeless in Pretoria could be hardest hit if the virus spreads.

"I think then we will be seeing a situation where people with compromised immune systems are not just at risk of Covid-19, they are at risk of death. We have a responsibility to keep our most vulnerable safe," he said.

What do you understand by d term “politics”?

Well, politics it’s all about governance concerning two or more parties trying to gain power.

Do you think the modern youth should be allowed to partake in politics, maybe for post of president?

Yes of course.

That depends on our intellectual prove on how to lead, because even our leaders today are still been fooled by the same street guys and most of them are succeeding in stealing from them.

So you think a youth as president of Nigeria will help the country??

Yes. Like i said earlier on, it all depends on the individual intellectual.

If you emerge as president of Nigeria, what will be the first three things you would do for the country?

Firstly, hospitality, education and less cost of feeding, because when there’s free medical care and free education the poor also can benefit from it. These are their basic amenities which they can partake from and also less cost of feeding.

What of in the case of covid-19?

It’s exactly what am referring to, because if this virus was meant for only the poor I don’t think the government will be more interested in it. But since it’s also for the upper class men too that’s why they are making provisions in the position of health standard.

Do you think Nigeria is a developed, developing or under developed country?

Well, I will say that Nigeria is Under developed country.

So if I may ask, what measures will you put in place to help Nigeria become a developed country?

Provisions for the basic amenities needed. Firstly social amenities or facilities such as:

Good road
Good water supply
Education basis
Good hospitality
Electricity and so on...

If as a country we can make these amenities which have just been mentioned available at every given time then as a country you know there is a progress after which you can think of any great production which you know your country can develop from.

For example, Nigeria is blessed with crude oil but we are still suffering and lacking from it but yet there is still billions of naira going on within that production.


If you were to go into politics, what position would you come out for?

Well, I will come out for House of Representatives, because I feel that will be the only reason I can speak for my people.

Spain's Princess Maria Teresa of Bourbon-Parma has become the first royal in the world to die from coronavirus, according to a statement from her brother, Prince Sixto Enrique.

The princess, a distant cousin of King Felipe VI, was 86 and died in Paris on Thursday, her brother said. Her funeral was held in Madrid on Friday.

As of Sunday a total of 2,606 people in France had died from coronavirus, France's director-general of health, Jérôme Salomon, said, marking an increase of 292 deaths in 24 hours.

How Spain became a hotspot for coronavirus

France recorded a total of 40,174 confirmed cases of the virus Sunday, according to the French public health website. That's 2,599 more cases than on Saturday, marking a 6.9% increase -- a smaller rise than the past several days.

Spain has also recorded a smaller percentage increase in case numbers in recent days. The country has recorded more than 80,000 cases and 6,803 deaths, according to figures from Johns Hopkins University.

The British royal family has also been affected by the global pandemic.

Prince Charles, first in line to the British throne, tested positive for coronavirus on March 25. Charles, 71, is currently self-isolating.

Nigerian cross dresser, Chris Nasi Monisola, popularly known as Oluwa Lagos tested postive for coronavirus alone side with his footballer boyfriend.


The cross dresser announced this on his Instagram verified page.

He noted that he recently returned to Nigeria from London with his boyfriend from a business trip.

At first he said he didn't believe in corona virus but unfortunately, after seeing some covid19 symptoms, both of them decided to go test and the result came back positive.
