This Op is damn funny. How much is 1 Gigawatt? Even if you didn't study Physics you should have NEPA staffs coming to drop bills. Be teachable. Someone was correcting you, yet you were adamant. Next time make sure you appraise the article you lift and paste here. Small conversion 1000 Watts= 1 KiloWatt 1000 KiloWatts= 1 Megawatt 1000 MegaWatts=1Gigawatt 1000 Gigawatts=1 Terawatt |

Kenya has 2600MW for a population of 44million. Its planning to add 5000MW by 2017 and to have a total of 15,000MW by 2020, fthat is one deal from solar Projects under development for wind power in Kenya..... this was befor another 400MW wind power plant was anounced an 800MW coal power plant is under construction, and americans attending the GES summit have signed another deal for an 880MW LPG gas fired power plant..... Also kenya is the largest producer of power from geothermal in Africa and 8th in the world with current drillings surveys estimating that there is a potential for 10,000MW from geothermal if all explored.

I guess the OP is one of those 'I saw it on the internet, so it must be true' types. Here's a tip: before rushing to post a link, do a bit of research, cos even BBC and CNN make mistakes If you post a link to dubious material, no way can you avoid the shyte that will be dumped on your head |

meccuno: Solar is not really as expensive as many of you like to sound, the same SA is also exploring solar solutions. You do realize that most of what makes solar expensive is that at the onset it is basically imported, but once the local industries become substantially involved, the cost drops dramatically. Taking up Solar is not just about satisfying our energy need, there are job benefits attached, community participation and independence, climate concerns, individual independence from national bills (this is my own personal fascination with it, i don't want any idiot bringing bills to my house on a monthly basis, claiming they are the government). Life was given to us freely, but we turn around and we use our entire life to pay to stay alive! 1 Like |

generaly kenyans have more power per population than Nigeria, Kenya has 2500 mw for 44 million people , while Nigeria has 4650 MW for 173 million people, Kenya uses mainly clean renewable sources like geothermal ,wind, hydro, and now solar Nigeria uses mainly resource dependent sources like gas and fossil fuels with hydro being the only major renewable source. dont be so quick to take up pride as you ridicule another country. |
