AKWA IBOM PEOPLE DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY, TRANSPARENCY AND RESPECT FROM THE UDOM EMMANUEL INTERREGNUM

As mandated by the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, as amended, candidates that were announced by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in different states of the federation as “winners” of the April 11, 2015, governorship election, regardless of how fraudulent and irregular some of the elections were, got sworn in on 29th of May, 2015, to take charge of the governmental affairs of their states.

From that date, therefore, it will be exactly two months on the 29th day of July, 2015, since Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel was constitutionally sworn in to run the affairs of Akwa Ibom State government. It is immaterial, in the meantime, how short-lived his tenure may last.

The leadership of APC in Akwa Ibom State has observed that in the past two months, every honest, self-respecting, and responsible person who has taken charge of the affairs of his state has found the moral necessity and social responsibility to declare to their people how much money they met in their state treasury, the level of indebtedness of their state to various interests and the challenges ahead at the time they assumed office. Even at the federal level, President Muhammadu Buhari has come out to sincerely tell Nigerians of the nauseating filth oozing out of our national treasury and the near comatose state the PDP-led government of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan left our economy in.

In the light of the above, we in the Akwa Ibom State APC are, therefore, seriously alarmed that Mr. Udom Emmanuel, who makes a big deal of being a “Deacon” of a church and who is reputed to be an accomplished banker and a stickler for transparency, has not found the honesty of purpose and sincerity of heart as a “Deacon” to disclose to Akwa Ibom people how much the reckless, spendthrift and profligate PDP-government of Mr. Godswill Obot Akpabio left in our State treasury. We expect that, without any prompting by anybody or organization, a banker of Mr. Udom Emmanuel’s caliber should have demonstrated better accountability, transparency and rectitude of character by telling Akwa Ibom people the balance of their common patrimony.
