Even though men still occupy the majority of successful businesses in the world, they are no longer the only gender on the list. Women are fighting their way up to the boardroom through the years. Here are the top 7 most powerful business women in the world:

1. Virginia 'Ginni' Rometty., Aged 57.

The chairman of IBM, she has three times ranked number 1 in the list of most powerful businesswomen in the world. Despite the decline of revenue each year, she decided to turn her focus and investments to new technologies. This move ended up showing results which brought in profits to the company. She also signed strategic partnerships with other corporate bodies such as apple.

2. Mary Barra., Aged 52.
The first female CEO of General Motors, she was previously ranked number 29 in the list. In the year 2013, GM faced the biggest crisis that was caused by the largest vehicle recall ever from a faulty ignition switch. She managed to solve it and turn the crisis into opportunity for the company to grow.

3. Indra Nooyi., Aged 58.
She became the chairman of Pepsi company in the year 2007. Despite the decline in the number of people consuming sugary drinks in recent years, the company shares have increased to 3.1%. In addition, PepsiCo won the 9th place in the 50 best selling new food and beverage products in the U.S in the year 2013.

4. Marillyn Hewson., Aged 60.
She is the chairman of the world's largest defense contractor-Lockheed Martin. As the American wars scaled down, she ventured to turn her focus to cyber security and alternative energy instead. Under her leadership, Lockheed Martin has maintained a top 'A' rating for carbon performance in the CDP Global 500 Climate Change Report.

5. Ellen Kullman., Aged 58.
Kullman took over DuPont in the year 2009, during which the share price was in a 10-year slump. After she took over the business, she quickly reformed the company by moving into the higher margin areas, such as nutrition and bioscience. The market cap has more than doubled during her tenure.

6. Meg Whitman., Aged 58.
She was named CEO for Hewlett-Packard in the year 2011, and was previously ranked number 9 in the list. The first thing she did was to draft a 5-year plan to turn the crisis around in HP. In the third year, 2014, HP's sales rose for the first time.

7. Irene Rosenfeld., Aged 61.
She received the title as the chairman of Mondelez International in the year 2007. By following her strategic decision, Mondelez has grown revenue of $35 billion. In addition, she earned the title of world leader in snacks, with brands such as Cadbury chocolate, Jacobs coffee, Oreo biscuits, and Trident gum.
