The title of this post is due to the alarming rate at which paracetamol is consumed around the world today.
People now take paracetamol for a number of different reasons and even when it is not required.
It is not uncommon to see people swallowing these pills for not only headaches and fever, but even for the supposed treatment of ulcers.
This is contributed in no small measure by the fact that paracetamol is an over the counter drug, which means that you don’t necessarily need a prescription to obtain the drug.
In addition to this, people feel that the drug is relatively harmless when compared with other medication.
However there are some things you must know before you decide to ‘pop those pills’.
First, paracetamol comes in a variety of forms. We are more familiar with the tablets, but apart from that, we also have syrups, injections as well as powders.
The paracetamol tablet usually come in a dose of 500 mg. To check, simply check the flat side of the tablet or caplet, and you will see it written as 500.
Now, it is strongly advised that you do not take more 16 of these tablets daily which amounts to 8 grammes. So for those who pop these pills indiscriminately, note that it can be quite fatal.
Symptoms of an overdose can be quite severe and include nausea, vomiting , cramps, stomach upset and in high enough doses can be fatal.
It is important also to take with caution if you have a history of ulcer.
Finally, it is very important that you respect the use of drugs and consult a professional and as much as possible, don’t self medicate.
