The Tesla Roadster is now available… as a 1:18 scale model

The Tesla Roadster is one of those cars that are eagerly awaited and that is surrounded by a halo of mystery. Although it may not seem like it, it was presented at the end of 2017 and at that time it was said that its arrival on the market was scheduled for 2020. Now that the time is approaching, everything indicates that it will be delayed until at least 2021. To liven up the Wait, the brand already has it available as a 1:18 scale model in the United States and Canada.

It is a “toy” officially launched and available in the Tesla online store. It is priced at $ 250 and has been made using the same 3D designs that we saw in the full-size vehicle. The model is 252 mm long, 109.5 mm wide and 70 mm high; with a total weight of 875 grams. Although, removing that technical part, the most striking aspect of this Tesla Roadster is the level of detail it reaches.

Zagato Raptor: this is the most special Lamborghini Diablo

Zagato is celebrating. This year marks its centenary and, therefore, we already review the best designs they have made throughout their history. Aston Martin also paid tribute to them through the DBZ Centenary Collection. Now, as a result of chance, the Zagato Raptor goes on auction, one of those one-offs that are not forgotten. Although RM Sotheby’s does not mention an estimated price, its exclusivity is expected to reach an exemplary figure.

The Zagato Raptor was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1996 and from the first moment surprised everyone. It was based on the Lamborghini Diablo, although the Italian bodybuilder contributed that new and striking futuristic design. In fact, it was one of the first to be developed digitally, without the need for scale models. For this reason, the prototype was made in a record time of just four months.

The design was the work of Nori Harada, by Zagato, and had the collaboration of Alain Wicki, of Lamborghini. It stands out for that peculiar concept that allows having coupé and a convertible in the same body thanks to that roof system. On the one hand, the upper part can be removed, having access through scissor doors. On the other hand, if it is maintained, the roof and doors can be raised upwards to facilitate access. Of course, Zagato’s double bubble roof was well present.

Maserati GranTurismo Zéda: the last in line

The Maserati GranTurismo is a fairly iconic model although somewhat forgotten. It was first introduced in 2007 and since then it has retained the same platform while some minor updates arrived. Its history has always been linked to that of the Maserati GranCabrio, its convertible version, with which it shares qualities and mechanical range. Now it’s time to say goodbye to these models as we knew them so far and the Maserati GranTurismo Zéda is their last tribute.

It is a one-off, a unique unit that has been created taking the base of the GranTurismo 2018. With this specimen, an end is put to a stage where that 4.7-liter atmospheric V8 mechanics of Ferrari origin and a power reigned up to 460 hp. The Maserati GranTurismo Zéda will be the last to take it, since afterwards, the new innovation plan of the Italian brand will begin to be applied, in which it will be committed to electrification and autonomous driving.

And if we return to that unique GranTurismo Zéda, we have to say that it is a work of the Stile Maserati Center which has focused on a very striking exterior decoration. This copy, responsible for linking past and future of the brand, receives a gradient of colors that represents that evolution. It starts at the back with a clear satin effect changing to a burnished metallic color. In the central part it is emphasized and ends up mutating the blue Maserati so alive that it appears in the front of the coupe.

Volkspod, the minimoto made with fins of Volkswagen Beetle

Imagination has no limits. The reuse of old car parts to give life to other models has always been the order of the day as who says, but use them to create a minimoto? We bet that’s something you haven’t seen very often. The Volkspod is a good example of what can be done with a little ingenuity and parts of a classic Volkswagen Beetle. Brent Walter, who describes himself as the “manufacturer and builder of a wide variety of things,” was the author of this minimoto inspired by the Beetle Type 1. Brent took the bulbous fender from each end of the car to bring life to life.

Each piece is equipped with a front and rear headlight of the donor car, so that when two “Volkspod” come together, they can make up almost a complete car. There are not many technical details about this creation, but we know that under the skin there is a custom chassis that houses a 79 cc engine. It probably has the same (or more) power-to-weight ratio as original Volkswagen Beetle. When it was launched in 1936, the “Beetle” had a block of four opposite cylinders (boxer) of 986 cc and 22.5 hp. In 1941 it increased its displacement to 1,131 cc and 31 HP, to 1,600 cc and 50 HP in the 70.
