The first and main market for the compact Kia SUV will be India. It is expected that there the model will share the engine range with its sister Hyundai Venue.

As a concept, the small crossover Kia Sonet made its debut at the Indian Motor Show in early February of this year. And now the company has sent local journalists invitations to the presentation of the product version – it will be shown on August 7. The place indicated “wherever you are,” that is, obviously, the model will be presented online. The invitation is accompanied by a teaser, but the picture seems to capture the same concept, the only noticeable difference from the February car is the GT Line badge on the grille. However, it is assumed that the conveyor version as a whole retained the appearance of a harbinger, with the exception of the details inherent in show cars.

The closest relative of Sonet is Hyundai Venue, but in terms of design, the models tried to maximize the dilution. So, Kia cross has “traditional” headlights instead of two-tier Venue optics, plus a family radiator grille, tail lights combined by a red die.

The characteristics of the concept were never announced, but here again it is worth taking a closer look at Venue. Like the Indian version of the Hyundai cross-country, the length of the Sonet probably does not exceed four meters (“shorties” in India have tax benefits, the length of the local Venue is 3995 mm). The size of the wheelbase is probably the same 2500 mm.

Kia Sonet will also share the engine range with a relative from Hyundai, but perhaps not completely. Indian media believe that gasoline engines will be common in models: the atmospheric “four” Kappa 1.2 (83 hp) and the “turbo-engine” 1.0 T-GDI (120 hp). But the diesel on Sonet supposedly will go from the local Kia Seltos – it’s 1.5 CRDi with a return of 115 hp. At Hyundai Venue, the “aspirated” is combined with 5MKP, the diesel Kia Seltos is available with 6MKP or 6AKP. The Hyundai Cross with 1.0 T-GDI is now offered with a 6MKP or a seven-speed two-clutch robotic gearbox. The drive of the new Kia, in any case, is only front-wheel (like Venue).

The Sonet crossover will be cheaper than Seltos, but it is expected to be slightly more expensive than Venue. Production will be adjusted at the Kia Indian plant, SUVs can reach dealers in September. They plan to sell the new cross in other countries of the Asia-Pacific region, but their list has not yet been disclosed.

Level 4 is the ability to leave the driver’s seat and go to bed in a traveling car, but in difficult situations, such an autopilot stops working and stops the car so that the driver, as he wakes up, will taxi.

Level 3 implies the ability to let go of the steering wheel, distract from the road and go about their business (watch a video, read a book, do work, etc.), but you cannot leave the driver’s seat and you must be prepared at any time to quickly take control. Level 3 autopilot, by the way, has the current fourth generation Audi A8 in the database, only it does not work and will never work due to the unavailability of the regulatory framework, which we discussed in detail in a separate article.

The current Tesla assisting autopilot, which regularly gets into accidents, is the 2nd level of autonomy at which the car drives itself, but the driver must constantly monitor the road and instantly adjust the autopilot’s actions if something goes wrong. Many Tesla owners ignore this rule, are distracted and even sleep at the wheel, so that, in fact, they themselves are to blame for the fact that they get into an accident. Note that Tesla requires drivers of their cars to keep their hands on the steering wheel, while 2-level autopilots from Ford, GM and Nissan allow you to lower your hands and remove your feet from the pedals, but the driver’s alertness is controlled by a special salon camera, and if the driver does not monitor dear, the autopilot turns off.

The first hybrid supercar Lamborghini received an open version of the Roadster, which will be released in a circulation of 19 copies. The circulation of the Sian coupe was 63 pcs., And thus together with the roadster it forms the number 1963 – the year the Lamborghini company was founded.

The Sian hybrid coupe made its debut last September on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show and was Lamborghini’s response to modern environmental discourse in the auto industry, requiring massive electrification to save the planet from so-called global warming. Specialists from Sant’Agata Bolognese chose a relatively easy way of “landscaping” and turned the middle-aged Aventador coupe into a low-voltage hybrid, that is, they applied a scheme typical of mass and relatively inexpensive cars.

But, of course, there were some original solutions: a 34-horsepower 48-volt electric motor was implanted between an atmospheric V12 (6.5 l, 785 hp) and a 7-speed “robot” with one clutch, and the electricity it produces during braking stored in the rear capacitor located behind the driver’s and only passenger’s seats. Compared to a lithium-ion battery of similar power, the supercapacitor is three times lighter (the hybrid module weighs only 34 kg), it accumulates and gives energy faster, but is effective only at speeds up to 130 km / h, while the “maximum speed” of Sian Roadster is 350 km / h . The maximum total power of the power plant is 819 hp, it is controlled by a simple all-wheel drive system with a Haldex center-to-center clutch. The first “hundred” Roadster picks up in 2.9 s, which is 0.1 s slower than the Sian coupe (probably due to the greater mass, the value of which the manufacturer does not give).

Lamborghini does not say what environmental effect the hybrid scheme gives and how much it can reduce the carbon footprint, but the effect for the consumer is obvious – the electric motor in the transmission gives not only short-term additional power and better responsiveness, but also acts as a torque converter, that is, it smooths out roars at the moment of gear changes why acceleration and deceleration are smoother, maneuvering at low speeds is greatly facilitated.

In general, in terms of technology, the Sian Roadster is no different from the original coupe, but it looks a bit more spectacular due to the lack of a roof and the more sculptural design of the engine compartment lid with two carbon safety arches. Active cooling dampers in the stern, which react to the temperature of the exhaust gases, are stored on the roadster.

Then the deadlines moved: the British promised to show the “green” flagship at the end of 2020, and its sales start at the beginning of next year. However, the coronavirus pandemic intervened, again disrupting Jaguar’s plans.

According to the British Autocar, the production of the XJ electric sedan starts only in October 2021, which means that it will not go on sale until the end of that year. The release of new items will be established at the Castle Bromwich factory, here the XE and XF models also go off the assembly line. The company explained that the company would resume work next month (the shutdown was caused by the threat of the spread of the virus), however, due to measures of social distance, the production of cars will be reduced.

According to The Sunday Times, Jaguar decided to delay the release of the new “green” XJ as part of a strategy to reduce non-priority spending. So far, Jaguar Land Rover, which is owned by the Indian group of companies Tata, aims to produce the most profitable models. And to them, despite the tightening of environmental standards in Europe, are cars of brands with traditional ICEs.

There is no information about the “stuffing” of the new flagship brand. Recall that the fourth-generation Jaguar XJ was available with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 diesel engine with 275 hp and a 5.0-liter gasoline V8 in several boosts from 385 to 550 hp. Now there is an electric crossover in the brand’s line: the I-Pace installation includes two electric motors (one on each axis). The total power is 400 hp, torque – 696 Nm.
