The Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has explained why the United States Government was not keen on supporting the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, especially in the fight against the Boko Haram sect.

Okorocha said the US government shunned Jonathan because it (the US) could not establish confidence and trust in the former President’s administration.

He, however, said the American government had promised to assist Nigeria in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency.

The governor, who was among the few individuals who accompanied President Mohammadu Buhari to the US recently, added that the American government had pledged to rebuild the states destroyed by the activities of the terror gang.

Okorocha said, “The US made it clear that it could not support the government of Jonathan because it was not comfortable with it.

“Now the American government has promised to help us fight the Boko Haram sect and provide for the Internally Displaced Persons.”

The governor, who spoke while interacting with journalists in Owerri, the Imo State capital, said the meeting between Nigeria and the US would enhance robust relationship.

While describing Buhari’s visit to the US as the best so far made by any government, Okorocha said he was delighted when the US President, Barak Obama, described Buhari as a man of integrity and honour.

He said, “I felt like singing the national anthem when Obama described our President as a man of integrity and honour; the trip to America is the best outing any President has made outside Nigeria.”

They were not comfortable because Jonathan refused to be a puppet to them, Furthermore, He went ahead to sign the Anti gay law, which infuriated them the more. Now that they have a puppet in Buhari; What did he gain in the fruitless trip to US?...Nothing!

The man just went with his cronies including this Roch Ass to squander 2.2 billion Naira and take pictures.

Definitely. Even Nigerian could not trust GEJ government. Government of the theft, by the theft and for the theft .thank God GEJ is out. What is happening in Greece now would have been a small thing compare to where PDP and GEJ where leading nigeria to.

You will continue to hate till thy kingdom come. Jonathan was even a puppet to his own ministers and most especially to 'chai...diaris god o', you are now talking of US. If anti-gay law is the only achievement you can point to over the course of six years rule for Jonathan, then shame on you.

You're saying trash...Buhari is now a puppet, let's see what he has to offer to his puppeteers.
Was anti gay law his only achievement?...Did I even say it's an achievement... Anyway, A zombie will always be a zombie.

What is all this nonsense about US everytime? The US is not as interested in the progress of Africa as they pretend to be. What mattered to them was not human rights or any corruption tale, they have their own similar problems.
What mattered was dogmatic loyalty. To hold Africa in loyal servitude!

We were supposed to allow them set up AFRICOM here, but
GEJ had the audacity to oppose it!

Look if you still dont get it, not only did they refuse to sell you weapons, they suddenly stopped buying your oil, there was no notice given, they just stopped! Do you know the effect such a shock could have had on the system, had the Asians not intervened? It is one of the factors that led to the depreciation of your currency.

The US is not really a friend. The earlier we know it, the better for us!

I wish you could conduct an opinion poll to ascertain the number of Nigerians that believe in him. In fact, don't go far, nairaland is enough to make your judgment.

No one is celebrating US. Nigeria is not an island. If you know too well about international relations, then you'd realize our ties with a strong nation as US matter a lot. Of course, our dealings with them have to be carefully conducted and probably at arm's length but ignoring them will be the dumbest thing of all for a president.
Maybe you should lecture us more on international affairs.

That's what most Nigerians and Africans don't understand. They believed the US is a country looking out for their best interest. They have no idea that they are the least in US govt agenda as far as security and economic development is concerned.
Recent reports has it that the US govt is about to send 8 F16 fighter jets to boost Egyptian govt defence system despite gross human rights abuses and massive political interferance on the Judiciary in the country. The same US that refused to sell arms to help Nigeria fight terrorist because of imaginery human rights abuses as reported by Amnesty Intl.
