Insurgency: IGP To Arrest Unregistered, Unpainted Cab Drivers After 2 Weeks. by fatdon2(m): 5:08pm On Aug 02, 2015
The inspector general of police,
Solomon Arase has issued a two-week
ultimatum to unpainted taxi drivers in
the federal capital territory, FCT, as
well as unregistered taxi drivers
across the country to comply with the law or face its wrath. Arase gave made this known during a
courtesy visit of the president of the
National Union of Road Transport
Workers, NURTW, Najeem Yasin and the
chairmen and secretaries of the 36
states and the FCT to the force headquarters, where h said
insurgents take advantage of such
elements. The police boss averred that
although the major parks were now
equipped with barricades, the
presence of the unpainted and
unregistered taxi could give the
terrorists the loophole they could capitalise. According him, some of the major
face-offs between the police and
members of the union always take
place on the roads when the drivers
are requested to present their
vehicle registration documents and they are unable to produce such. Arase however affirmed that a
collaboration between the police
and the NURTW was of utmost
importance and could go a long way
to avert some of the planned attacks
carried out in motor parks by the insurgents. Yasin, who hailed the removal of road
blocks by the IGP, called on the police
to intensify patrols on the highways
saying that it is the only way the
vacumn created by the removal or
road blocks would not be felt.
