Kaduna Begins Demolition Of Structures On Govt Land by simongonner: 8:03pm On Aug 02, 2015 |
Governor Nasir El-Rufai declared on Sunday that illegal structures on government-owned schools and hospitals would be demolished beginning from Thursday. The government in June warned owners of the affected to discontinued development on government lands, but the building continues. Speaking at the second Town Hall meeting held in Zaria, the governor declared free and compulsory primary and junior secondary school education in the state public schools as from September this year. He admonished parents to report any principal or headteacher found collecting fees from pupils or students directly to his office for prompt action. He said government would continue to interact with the people directly to brief them on the administration’s activities so far and get first hand advice from them on how to govern the state effectively and efficiently. El-Rufai warned occupants of illegal structures to vacate the property, saying his administration would no longer cordon encroachment on government lands. He said, “Illegal structures on Zaria library, Alhudahuda College, Rimi College, Sardauna Memorial College and other schools, will be demolished as the notice to quit expires on Wednesday, August 5. “Those who built such illegal structures are knowledgeable enough to know that encroaching on school lands is prohibited. There is no going back in pulling down such illegal structures especially in our schools and hospitals.” The governor told the audience that the Zaria water works, which had been stalled by the past administrations, would be completed in the next two years. While responding to a question asked on indigeneship/settlers dichotomy, el-Rufai said Kaduna belonged to all. “All citizens of the state are entitled to stay in any part of the state and benefit from the state,” he added. http://www.punchng.com/news/kaduna-begins-demolition-of-structures-on-govt-land/ |

El Rufai and demolition are inseparable. Exactly what he is renowned for when he was the FCT minister. |
