I've always known that this food price hyper-inflation was very artificial which explains these farmers current lamentations.

Why should raw food prices with little or no imported inputs have the same inflation rate as other products that are the true big victims of exchange rate decline? This is an indicator of pricing manipulations which is why farmers have been making supernormal profits in the past one year and half.

The impact of insecurity and transport costs are there but overestimated as excuses. Insecurity has been around for a while even when a bag of rice was 30k.

Logistics is high but the average impact is reduced when the cost is spread over several units of farm products being transported. But farmers will still sell a unit at 4 or 5 times the previous price as if the entire 400% petrol increase was used to move a single unit.

They've had their time. May the majority be better off for it.

Yet, millions of Nigerians don't want to make such superficial profits by not considering farming as a career. Same people that will want a recruiter to pay them N500k for knowing how to display "hello world" on the browser in the name of tech bro.

Take up this challenge; cultivate 1 hectare of land and plant maize. God help you Fulani did not temper with it and you are able to harvest it. In today's Nigeria, every Tom, Dick and Harry wants to do tech because they hear that there's money in it. Why is it that a quarter of those people are not looking towards farming since you all think farmers are making huge money from it? The Alhasan guy you quoted said government should subsidize the cost of farm inputs like fertilisers and chemical so that more production can happen.

How can somebody spend hundreds of thousands on fertiliser, chemical, fuel, labour, transportation and logistics and then government will just drop a policy that makes such person sale at a lost?

Why not initiate that policy at the start of each farming season?

Nigerians hate it whenever government says they should consider farming. Instead, they go online to wail about rising cost of food in the country. Instead of the government to sit with the farmers to come up with a better policy, next thing is to open border for importation, forgetting that some of those countries they are importing from are into mechanized farming, whereas our farmers are into manual labour due to lack of government funding.
