C’River: ‎Police To Arraign Joe Agi For Alleged Forgery

SAN FRANCISCO, August 04, (THEWILL) – The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, has given police prosecutors the go-ahead to arraign Mr. Joe Agi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), in court for alleged multiple counts of forgery, it has been revealed.

It was reliably gathered that trouble began for Agi when he dragged the Cross River State Governor before an Abuja High Court alleging that the governor was ineligible to contest the 2015 elections for alleged non-payment of party dues and alleged age falsification.

The court on Friday, July 31, dismissed the suit for lack of merit and jurisdiction.

However, in the course of the trial, Agi was accused in court by the Defence counsel, Mr. Paul Erokoro, of forging most of the documents he tendered in evidence in his desperate bid to ‎nail the governor.

To prove his claim that the governor defaulted in paying the dues of his party, and present himself (Agi) as being up to date regarding dues payment, he presented his (Agi’s) membership card of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP).

But it was soon discovered in court that Joe Agi fraudulently altered his membership card when it was observed that his card showed he paid his dues up to the year 2014.

This was found to be strange as the PDP membership card issued by the party made no provision for 2014. It ends with the column for 2013.

As if the falsification of the PDP was not enough, it was also discovered that the Agi also forged the letter purportedly from the University of Ibadan‎ which he tendered in evidence to support his claim that the governor falsified his age.

It was soon discovered that the letter was neither signed by the Vice Chancellor of the Institution nor the Registrar. These are the only two persons authorised to issue official documents from the university.

In his presentation in court, Agi had produced a letter written by IDP Consulting, to the University of Ibadan, seeking information about the Governor’s age and academic records.

IDP Consulting, according to Agi, wrote the letter on behalf of one company called Rock House Media, which claimed the Governor had applied to them seeking employment, hence the need for verification of his records in the University of Ibadan.

This was found to be odd, since the Governor, who has been a Senator since 2011 could not possibly have been seeking employment from a media company.

Further investigations revealed that the said IDP Consulting does not exist, and even the address of ‎the phony company was also found to be non-existent.

The University of Ibadan also disowned the letter produced in court by Agi. It went further by clearly stating in its letter that Governor Ayade’s date of birth is March 2, 1968. The University produced the Governor’s undergraduate, postgraduate and record of service to support its claim.

Shocked by the discoveries, Erokoro accused his colleague of forgery in open court, prompting an angry exchange of words.
Curiously, a lawyer from Joe Agi’s chamber wrote a petition to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, seeking investigation into the two issues brought before the court by his principal against the Governor.

Following the petition, the police carried out a thorough investigation and came out with a report that exonerated the Governor. Instead, the police investigation found Agi culpable of forgery.
