About 50 percent of the top level officers of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) are be retired as the efforts to re-position the state-owned oil company continue, according to BusinessDay.

An source in the oil and gas industry told the business newspaper that most of the group general managers and managing directors of the state-owned oil company’s subsidiaries would be affected by the next wave of the exercise which started with the removal and replacement of the group managing director.

The new GMD, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, is expected to operate with a lean team in his bid to transform the oil and gas industry.

Some of the management staff that have served close to 30 years and above may be paid off, the source told the newspaper.

President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Dr. Kachiukwu the new helmsman for the NNPC on Tuesday and within 24 hours, all the eight executive directors of the corporation were ordered to quit.

Another source added that the managing directors of all the refineries and other subsidiaries such as the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) are mostly like be the next set to be shown the door.

Good move, long overdue. Those who have kids abroad better bring them back home or encourage them to work and subsidize. Nigeria cannot be serving 800% the needs of few individuals while millions go to bed hungry.
