State of Osun government under the leadership of Governor Rauf Aregbesola would soon privatize tertiary Institutions in the state due to ongoing financial crisis.

This form the part of communiqué of Osun Summit held in Osogbo earlier in the week to discuss the future of the state.

The summit, which was organised by the Osun Legislators’ Forum, comprising lawmakers from Abuja and the House to address the inability of the state to pay salaries, meet basic needs, among other challenges facing the state.

Participants at the summit advised the governor to persuade Federal Government to take over one out two colleges of education in state of Osun while one out the two state polytechnics should be privatized.

They added that government needs to take difficult to save education sector in Osun State which has been crippled due to prolonged strike by workers.

Governor Rauf Aregbesola in his response pledged to work with all stakeholders to rescue education sector and reposition the state.

The governor however described Justice Oloyede’s allegations against him as baseless.

Academic and non-academic staff in four state owned institutions excluding Osun state University are currently on strike due non-payment of salaries, leave allowances, non-remitance of pension deductions to PFAs and other issues relating to their welfare.

Osun State government currently finances six higher institutions; Osun State University, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, Colleges of Education in Ila-Orangun and Ilesa and Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso (joint ownership with Oyo state).
