An attempt by a suicide bomber to attack and wreak havoc at Rumirgo Market in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday morning was thwarted by a vigilante group member.

DAILY POST gathered that the suicide bomber heading to Rumirgo market was accosted by the security conscious civilian.

In the process of interrogation, the terrorist believed to be a Boko Haram member blew himself up and died on the spot.

The vigilante member, however, sustained injuries.

Troops nearby quickly moved in and rushed him to hospital for medical treatment.

The situation in the area is now under control with people going about their normal businesses.

Defence Headquarters had earlier in the week placed Nigerian troops on maximum alert to forestall further attacks in the North East region.

Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, Acting Director Army Public Relations, confirmed the incident.

He urged the public to continue to be more vigilant and security conscious.
