The Government has on Friday confirmed the gradual deployment of troops into strategic positions in the Niger Delta region and the possible option of force against members of the new militants engaged in attacks on oil and gas pipelines if the ongoing dialogue between the groups and representatives of the government fail.

Just as it unveils its sustained security plan in the region to tackle militancy and other criminal activities with the proposed recruitment of indigenes of oil-bearing communities of the Niger Delta into local arm of the Joint Military Task Force, the government disclosed that it was setting up an emergency military brigade team to respond to attacks and engage the militants and trained Amnesty beneficiaries in intelligence gathering in the region.

The Minister of Defence, Mansur Mohammad Dan-Ali, while speaking in Yenagoa during a call on the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, represented by his Deputy, Rear Admiral John Jonah (RTD), confirmed that the military is engaged in special personnel rotation and deployment within strategic areas of the Niger Delta and that the newly formulated security plan and infrastructures for the region will be community driven with indigenes of oil bearing communities serving as Local JTF and intelligence components.

According to Mr. Dan-Ali, "During the last meeting with the Vice President, Yemi Osinbanjo, it was agreed that the security arrangement must involve the people. I am here to show that the people of the community must be involved. As we have succeeded in the North-East with locals as Civilian JTF, we will involve such in the Niger Delta region. We will fuse them into the new security infrastructure for the region.”

“We are also to involve some of the ex-militants that have acquired training under the Amnesty programme in our security arrangement. We are paying them and expecting them to put to use some of the knowledge acquired under the local and foreign training. We also expected every other stakeholder to be involved in the arrangement. A special Brigade unit is also to be infused in the region."

Mr. Dan-Ali, however, noted that the success of the new security arrangement is dependent on the active involvement of States in the implementation. "The states must be involved to assist in detecting illegal websites that are used to distort and tarnish military operations in the region. It must be known to the State Governors that keeping Nigeria one is a task that must be done and it must involve all.”

On the possibility of the use of force against the Niger Delta militants if the ongoing dialogue with the Federal Government fails, Mr. Dan-Ali, responded saying ‘It cannot be ruled out.”

The Chief of Defence Staff, General A.G Olorunsekan, in a chat with newsmen after the call on the Governor, noted that the military are ready and in positions in the Niger Delta region, “We have allowed the ongoing dialogue between the Federal Government and the Militants. Our troops are in position. My message to the militants is to ensure they go to the negotiation table and we in the military will engage ongoing military infrastructures for the region.”

Earlier in his speech, the Bayelsa Governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral John Jonah, commended the military for the efforts made so far in tackling issues of militancy and other criminality along the waterways and creeks of the Niger Delta region. He said, "The Niger Delta activities, whether negative or positive, is gravitating around Bayelsa State. Bayelsa will continue to collaborate with the security agencies and the Federal Government. Without security, there can be no development.”

“First, we want to ensure increased security activities in Bayelsa. A situation where our women are stripped naked along the water by sea pirates is pathetic. Our waters are no longer safe. We welcome the idea of the involvement of locals in the security arrangements. The locals have the navigational knowledge of the waters than the military.”

Wetin concern you inside? Why art thou crying more than the bereaved?

IYC & even barca have disowned the scavengers, so stand back and watch what the military's operation "crocodile smile" will make of the usual "crocodile tears" of we don't know who these vandals are...

Initially, most of you were mocking the NA till they made mincemeat of Boko who are ready to die, let alone these ones that are just out for surveillance contracts...

What's the objective of the simulation? Shebi it's to show their capabilities to the scavengers , nor for fun and games nah... It's to pass a message to the perpetrators and their sympathisers...

Until the FG takes her eyes off oil and start looking at the people as the most important natural resource, Nigeria is going nowhere.
The People who are supposed to be behind bars are the ones being made partners. A country ready to sacrifice honour, the rule of law and her values just so that crude continues to flow for a few to steal, will not last.

Well said o jare my sister. We are all in support of self determination, resource control, regionalism and all those sound bites. But what has self determination got to do with militancy, piracy, vandalism, armed robbery, kidnapping and all other criminal activities the militants are known for.

I cannot tell you how elated I am about the current military campaign against the ijaw militants in Lagos and Ogun. I learnt directives came from General Olonishakin himself, the Chief of Defence staff. You know he is the only five star General in the Nigerian Army today and he is also from the South West. He wouldnt suffer any militant gladly in his own region. I also learnt that local vigilantes collaborated with security personnels in the operation.

Those who sympathize with the criminals would become open target for the army. When the military campaign against them start, I hope they wont cry about genocide, human right and all those jargon.

Only a fraction of Niger Deltans support the activities of NDA. The only group of people who have 100% support for avengers is ipob; and that makes one wonder what a charade it is.

President Buhari says that Nigeria's unity remains non-negotiable.
The Avengers want negotiations, just like most of Nigeria down south.

COAS Buratai equally prepares for the invasion of the Niger delta. Buratai is the soldier who says he used his personal savings as a soldier and farmer to buy Dubai landed properties worth millions of Dollars.

Buhari wants to use divide and conquer and rule first in the Niger delta - employ Nigerdeltans to fish out Nigrtdeltans to Buhari's Janjaweeeed soldiers who turned the other eye until Boko Haram sacked Jonathan government.

Oil is produced in the south, but most of the proceeds are consumed in the north, most of modern development infrastructures including modern railways are in the north.

Let's see how this years Nigeria VS Niger delta region plays out.

Kachikwu proposed dialogue, some people from the North met buhari in UK when he went for treatment not to dialogue.

That they will raise people, ex military men from North, ex militants now loyal to APC to fight, together with military.

That is why Kachikwu got removed.

Buhari is also strongly informed to start make oil exploration in bida and chad is completed for the North before his tenure is over.

That is the grand plan

But Watch and see … how it will play out.
NDA are graduates and trained military personnels from my investigations, they speak good English, they are not just some illiterates fighting what they don't know.

Dabullit always called for total annihilation of terrorists , sponsors and their finances , all because of things like this , When you dialogue with terrorists, it might work for a while, but when you give them 3 shots for every single shot they fire , they'd show their real nature , cowards as they already are Not so long ago amnesty program was given to same set of people , some built universities, other's bought warships and even threatened Lagos, some went abroad on vacation, all expense paid trips to learn a vocation , they protested in Poland ,Russia ,Germany that they had been ignored , and that's about 4 years after the amnesty program was supposed to have ended

No ibo or ijaw is more than an average Nigerian , they don't deserve special treatment, If Massob,MEND was annihilated , not worrying about noise from international community , we wouldn't have NDA today , that's what dabullit said

The government needs to show credibility , passion and soft handedness , however when some people try to feel too relevant , Government should show no mercy

There will be lots of collateral damage when NA damages the NDA, ND e.t.c , but like those who shielded boko haram, they will loose more than houses and families
