Pope commends Gov. Obi

Pope Benedict XVI has commended Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State assuring him of his prayers.







The Pope sent his blessings and commendations to the governor through His Lordship, the Auxiliary Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor who had just returned from Vatican.

Pope Benedict XVI called on the Church to support honest and good politicians, especially those who are ready to live the Christian life even while serving the people.

Earlier, at the Ad Limina meeting with the Pope at the Vatican, Bishop Ezeokafor briefed the Pope on how Governor Obi was turning the State around positively through Anambra Integrated Development Strategy (ANIDS).

He said the strategy ensured that all sectors in the State were simultaneously attended to. This has made the people of the State happy, he said.

He also told the Pope of the opposition the governor was facing from those who benefited from the corruption of the past and are no longer benefiting today.

The Bishop explained to the Pope how government policies had affected the development of Awka Diocese with specific reference to the return of 18 schools to their former mission owners.

It would be recalled Bishop Ezeokafor, who has since returned to the State said the meeting with the Pope was encouraging pointing out that the Pope assured the Governor of his prayers to enable him keep up the good work he was doing.
