Yes it looks like blk6. I prefered blk6 toilets compared to other blocks except 7 and 8. I used to make use of the ones on the ground floor, water was always available

The school administrators need to be checked seriously.

CBN came with around N1B intervention fund and asked what the school needed done critically. The school asked for a new senate building! grin Dolts.

They should have at least built a new hostel or rehabilitated the current ones with a fraction of the fund.

The last time we had a major rehabilitation of all the halls was around '98 with PTF under Abacha. Funny!
Imagine....

if you fail to realise at first glance that the problem here is gross mismanagement of funds, then there really isnt anything to talk about, there's a big difference between 'free' and 'subsized', no one is asking for free education, but before you give a child a mansion, look at the way he manages his room. the same management that did nothing with the N18,000 increment will do little or nothing with your opinion increment

sorry about the insult, avoid baseless comparison of the nigerian system to foreign ones.

Of course there is mismanagement of funds....but what makes it painful is that the funds they mismanage are very tiny in amount begin with.

Universities in Nigeria were good back during my parents time....when there were just 80000 students, when getting into university involved writing two exams over two years.....and you qualified to write the second exam if you passed the first exam above a certain limit.(no such thing as five credits in two sittings)...hence keeping numbers low.And the cash was enough.

Now....we have two million students in seventy universities, and we have an education budget that is not sufficient. For each and everyone of those students we have to find N240,000 per annum to train all of them....approx $1000 . We also have to find money for facilites, and money to maintain those facilites. We also need new lab equipment, funding for postgraduate studies, etc.

And all that needs money.

At which point...I leave this thread....by urging you to read this article. Just read it...you do not have to agree with everything said.

Education is on auto-pilot in Nigeria. If something is not done quickly Nigeria could become the only country without government schools, just like the death of Nigeria airways. What a shame!

Even if UNIBEN offered me tuition free schooling with a 5 bedroom fully serviced and furnished Duplex as my hostel and a Mercedes S-Class with a paid driver and 2 Mopol escort with siren as my shuttle car and free UNIBEN hunnies every night for the duration of my study from First year through to my PhD, I still wouldn't accept.. angry

Increment in SCHOOL FEE AND YET NO IMPROVEMENT IN WELFARE CONDITION. (dilapidated building, bad toilet etc). And we paid for development fee. The situation of our toilet is so bad that students no longer use them.

Coupled with some other charges I didn’t and still do not understand, is the #18,000 development fee which was part of the reasons Obafemi Awolowo University management increased its school fees, counting some months behind us. The development fee is a scam or what?

A closer or let me say my personal review of the exorbitant and “holy gholistic” increment of fee early March last year; looking through the estimation given by the management, one out of the 17 listed estimate, I kept on fixedly gazing at the number 15 on the list, then the question that kept on heaping round my thought as ant heap round a cone of sugar was development of what?. An obviously pellucid reason for this question is, so far, the condition OAU has been during the time normal fee was been paid is still what we are now, NO CHANGE!!!, hence my question again, development of what. Well, consoling myself, it was probably meant for building a new giant Senate building so these set of inconsiderate management can continue relaxing in air conditioned offices while we keep on swinging in our erratic and nothing to write home about welfare condition? We’ve had enough patience for our management to make sense but still they prefer our parents hustling to pay them.

It may interest you to know that, the said estimation was as a result of the protest, which saw to the reduction from 74,000 to whatever we have now, is this really not a scam? As far as am concerned, no development whatsoever has been implemented by the management, I may be wrong with evidence, after swindling over 5000 2013/2014 fresh students of #18,000 development levy, and now 2014/2015 set were inevitably victims. Let’s say approximately 12,000 students paid, #18,000 in such folds, that will be a total of? I leave that to the mathematicians to rack brains about. Or maybe my definition of development is what I’m inferring from? Lest I fall a victim of erroneous conclusion.

Let me linguistically analyze the word “development”, or probably what the management mean. Is it what my dictionary defined it to be or what? Well, here is what I have according to lexicographers;

Development is : the act or process of growing or causing something to grow or become larger or more advanced.

Sequel to the above definition, is it then justifiably right, based on the condition of our hostels, lecture halls, that the management have satisfied the above definition of development? To which #18,000 was attached to? I see the word development as used by the management as a canopy to hide their somewhat exorbitant fee, if so, I believe this canopy needs to be fixed before another set of fresh students will be made to pay such canonized fee. Obviously, this situation needs some changes, some trenches need some cutting, some pillars need erecting and the flooring needs some scrubbing.

AWOLOWO HALL HOSTEL IN PICTURE

THE WELFARE CONDITION IN OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY IS WORSE THAN WHAT WE HAVE ABOVE, THE ABOVE PICTURES ARE JUST TO DEPICT the suffering we student are going through despite the fee hike.
?
after they will say they are the best,in my opinion student can contribute to their welfare,if each student pays 1000 the halls will be in a better condition, but no they won't all they do is to make their own ooni of ife burial let them make their own toilets

OP, please remove the post, this is not the right place for such a post, you could simply write the school authorities stop defaming your school that has worked to keep the name for years. It breaks my heart to see such a post here as an Alumnus of the great school, even out there we are still proud of our school. Please remove the post OP!
