NIPOST General Manager Ibrahim Baba Retires by tunex23: 12:48pm On Aug 19, 2015 |
Ibrahim Baba on Tuesday retired as the Post Master General of the Federation from the Nigeria Postal Service. Baba told journalists in Abuja that non-usage of postage stamps by financial institutions made the country to lose N1 trillion every year. Baba stated that NIPOST, under his leadership, was able to intercept 258,207 scam mails worth N125.2 billion between 2006 and 2014. “NIPOST was able to intercept the fraudulent documents through collaboration with security agencies like the Nigeria Police and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,” he said. He added that NIPOST also collaborated with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, the Department of State Service, the Nigerian Customs Service and the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom. Advertisement According to him, ICT is not a threat to NIPOST but rather a blessing as it is impacting positively on postal operations and services. Baba said: “Our desire to make the post office a one-stop shop motivated us to adopt new technologies to enhance postal operations in terms of speed and efficiency in service delivery. “It is also a means of capturing new business opportunities provided by e-commerce and other electronic and financial services.” Baba added that 70 per cent of post offices across the country had been equipped with ICT facilities, including track and trace features. http://www.today.ng/news/08198265-ibrahim-baba-retires-as-post-master-general/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter 1 Like

His retirement is okay provided he is replaced with an innovative and creative person. NIPOST does not have any business not making money for the country. His complains about the challenges due to global communications trends shows he is not updated and flexible enough to move NIPOST to the next level. He is good riddance to bad rubbish. Only hope the government will not politicize his replacement. NIPOST needs total operational overhaul and process re-engineering to compete with its counterparts globally in the nearest future, it's currently very far behind. A creative, highly flexible and smart young business manager with expertise in Information Technology will be more suitable for this position in my opinion not a career civil servant with useless employee mindset. It's a very tough job to move NIPOST to the current levels from his present state. |
