I've always wondered why police and other military and civilian forces salute the presidents and senators. I'm a bit confused. Can someone like Dangote be saluted or?

Salutation is one of d oldest way of greeting, it means " I means I hold no harm against u", it marks a sign of respect n loyalty to ur superior. In customs, ethics n tradition of NA, superior commissioned officers are to b saluted when wearing a beret, brace up or sit up wen sitting or driving and also the superior officer would also compliment my saluting bak. Salutation are done from 6am to 6pm immediately d flag is down, no Salutation. Not evry person is entitled to Salutation, only the executives i.e president n d rest n the Salutation is for the office it's self not individual, no one will crusify u for not saluting ex president cos he is no more on d mantle of leadership. If u decide to salute dangote dat one na eye service n u are on ur own.

Yes! You are saluting his office and not him as an individual, if u are opportune to watch passing out parade u will see that a governor is recognized by giving him national salute wen he climb the saluting dice n during d national salute the national anthem us half for the Gov n full for the President whom is the reviewing officer or wen a minister represent a president e.g min of defence is given the accord as a president with full national salute.

Only the President, VP, and Minister of Defense are saluted.

In US practice, only the President and Secretary of Defense are saluted.
