The procurement plan provided by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) showed that the estimated cost for each of these Almajiri schools to be built across the country was between N8 million and N196 million.
Using the procurement documents, monitors were able to trace an Almajiri school in Gwagwalada.
They found that although the school which was awarded for the cost of N56,266,244.16 was completed, it remained unopened 6 months after issuing a job completion certificate to the contractor who handled the project.
