United States’ Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle, speaks with BAYO AKINLOYE of Punch Newspaper

Q: With various figures being bandied about concerning Nigeria’s looted funds kept abroad, like in the US, amounting to between $61 billion and $150 billion, how much really is the US trying to assist Nigeria recover?

A: It is hard to say because we have not — we do not — know about all of the divergence; all of the investigations already held. Getting the money back will take a long time. First of all, it takes forensic accounting work to figure out exactly what money is where; it is not an easy task. The second thing is (that) whenwe make cases and we take them to court, they can take a long time in the court. I believe the case involving the Abacha era; they are still working on it in the US. Therefore, the one thing that is absolutely crystal clear, however, as we said to Mr. President in Washington, is our intent and our willingness to work with this case. Buteven if they take time, even if we do not know the exact amount (of Nigeria’s looted funds) right now, we will do everything we can to help with the cases.

Lolz.., very different from the information Buhari and APC have been feeding their gullible supporters with. Going by the propaganda, one would think the trillions of dollars, allegedly looted and stashed abroad, will be recovered and culprits imprisoned in a matter of days. That is even if there is any looted fund stashed abroad.

In other words, we're saddled with a govt that is on a wild goose chase, and this is a govt that will hit the 100 days mark in a few days, no cabinet, no project initiated or continued, no policy, no programme, no achievement and no direction, with confusion reigning supreme. Everything is on autopilot from the way it was left by the last administration.

Govt of propaganda, by propaganda and for propaganda! Govt of body language and fear of Buhari. Yeye dey smell.

What is important is to establish funds are laundered and come an agreement with those directly involved, as long as they are willing to bring back what belongs to me and you, there is no need to go through the long process. But do not forget the crime committed is not only in usa but also in Nigeria and as such if they fail to co-operate, they risk jail time for themselves and their families.

Nigeria must be great again.

Mouth action government..

They are just using this ambassador as a mouth piece.
This government wouldnt achieve anything in four years.

This is just an excuse not to retrieve the money they claimed the previous administration stole.

My candid advice to General Muhammadu Buhari is, do not waste 4yrs chasing want can`t be recovered, make efforts to properly safeguard what is coming in and utilize such well with less leakages.

As if they care about recovering the stolen funds when they're the ones who created the enabling system to stash the funds. Who is fooling who. Hypocrites.
