RECTOR of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Alhaji Mas’ud Elelu, has said that polytechnics in the county are not meant for studies in accountancy, business administration or marketing, but for science and engineering courses.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, on Tuesday, the Rector said such social academic courses did not usually offer employment opportunities, since parents of most of the graduates did not own bank or finance houses.

Alhaji Elelu also disclosed the plan of the institution to organise an open day to showcase the engineering products manufactured by students of the institution.

He said this would give them opportunity to attract customers, especially organisations and corporate bodies to patronise their products.

Elelu disclosed this to journalists, in Ilorin, on Tuesday during a facility tour of the institution, where some of the ongoing and finished projects were shown.

“We would be exhibiting our products at national conference to attract customers because we cannot display them in the market as a result of lack of fund to secure necessary accreditation from organisations, such as Standard Organisation (SON), NAFDAC and other regulatory agencies
“An open day programme is in the pipeline, where we would invite big factories within and outside Kwara State to come and see our products and choose any they would want the institution to produce for them at a price cheaper than what they can get elsewhere,” the Rector said.
